When you play these albums, name the songs you ALWAYS skip

Lessee.. of the FM albums I actually own (Amazon sent me a completely cracked copy of Say You Will and I'm still waiting on the replacement.) I rarely skip anything on an album but there're a few exceptions depending on my mood.

White Album: Er.. I usually listen to the whole thing straight thru, but I will occasionally skip I'm So Afraid... Hey, I love it live!

Rumours: none

Tusk: none

Mirage: none

TITN: Welcome to the Room... Sara

The Dance: Gee.. I don't really listen to this much.. I start it up sometimes only to realize rather just watch it again. I don't skip any, then, I guess.

I personally think Stevie's and Christine's songs for Mirage are all excellent (including "Only Over You"). And while I enjoy all of Lindsey's songs for the album, it wasn't his best material. But when you consider how many different directions he takes with his music, I'm hardly surprised that a little second rate material popped up, if only once. Although I feel the same about his solo album Law And Order. But Go Insane was a fantastic implementation of a completely different musical style, just like Tango In The Night and Out Of The Cradle. And that is indisputable fact!

The live version of "I'm So Afraid" is indeed awesome, but I like the way Lindsey sounds genuinely scared on the album. I don't think that same fear is present in the live performences. That said, most of the time the album versions and live performences of FM's songs sound very different, which is fantastic, because I find most bands' live performances pale in comparison to the album versions, unless you're at a concert. (Thus why The Dance is the only live album I own, and probably ever will! )
And how do you skip "WTTR...S"?! Shameful! In all seriousness, I personally think the only thing slightly wrong with it is Lindsey's occasional vocals...

I dunno, I just can't get into WTTR...S

The whole track just sounds wonked out to me. It gives me the same vibe as when say.. you're already listening to a song and a different song is playing at the same time.. does that make sense? Like, you're watching/listening to a youtube vid and a popup add with music comes on.. It just irks me, musically... so much so that the only words I can remember are "Ooh, downstairs and the big 'ol house is mine!" Hmm, that's probably not even right.

Just trying to explain what listening to that song is like for me is driving me crazy!

You're absolutely right about FM's live versions of their songs.. they're pretty much a new experience. I like it that way.

Fleetwood Mac - Nothing. Used to skip Landslide (hearing the Dixie Chicks version all the freakin time made me annoyed with the song for some time) and Sugar Daddy.

Rumours - Nothing. Used to skip Songbird.

Tusk - That's Enough for Me

Mirage - Love in Store, Oh Diane, Book of Love, Wish You Were Here

Tango - Seven Wonders (sometimes), You And I, Part II (can't believe they choose this over Part I), Welcome to the Room Sara (sometimes)

Behind The Mask - Least favorite Mac album. The question for this one is what don't I skip over..that would be Love is Dangerous, Behind the Mask, In the Back of My Mind, Affairs of the Heart, Hard Feelings, Freedom.

Time- These Strange Times, Nothing Without You, I Do

Say You Will - Red Rover, What's the World Coming To (sometimes), Say You Will (sometimes)

I think the thing about WTTRS is that for a song on Tango, an excellent but somewhat contrived album (see: CM's songs), Stevie's few songs sound pretty natural and 'real'. WTTRS is so obviously that chapter of her life, in rehab, it sounds slightly paranoid and confused, with some acceptance.

The music is good and Stevie's singing is like her 80's solo stuff, 100% fine.

Kind of song I would have liked a video clip for. But Stevie didn't really have any really big Mac hits after Gypsy.




The thing about FM is they created albums, made between the people, not a bunch of singles thrown together, trimmed down. Like The Who, Cheap Trick, etc, you gotta listen to the complete thing and take the good with the bad. Thankfully FM didn't have many duds in the Rumours-era line up. Pretty amazing really considering how nuts and out of it they all were. They really did miss Ken Caillat on Mirage though..

While I think TITN contained some of Stevie's weakest material on an FM record, I did like WTTRM and WISYA. In fact I liked both songs more than SW.
