Mike, I hear you, While I did love the "wall of sound' version (and happy we have it) and its harder rocking quality with the superb guitar playing from Lindsey on the verses...The melody and Stevies singing seemed to get lost in all of that chaos ...and that chorus, while starting strong...ended flat to me.......But Lindsey took care on this new version to fill in the chorus w/ some beautiful guitar counter parts, and the reverb on "together, together" really adds that Fleetwood Mac charm...and it goes without saying Stevies vocal is not near as good on that outtake as the final CD version-which allows the song more breath.

I too, am holding out for a solid rocker from Stevie on this CD and I think it may come courtesy of "Everyone Finds Out". I hope..

So nice to hear the whole song! The guitar is so reminiscent of Gypsy! It's so gorgeous! I think they made the quality extra-crappy on this one so no one (except die hard fans) would share it.

Not to nit-pick, but I think the song is too short. maybe that's why Stevie's pouty. If that's why, I wouldn't blame her.

Now, I forget who said this when the Thrown Down clip was first posted...but somebody, um, got really worried the "you say you're sorry" verse was no longer part of the song because of the "shaking the faith" addition. I assured this worried ledgie that I was sure it was still in there despite it not being in the clip.
May I say, (ahem) I told you so!!!

Now to go dig through the archives and find this worried ledgie .
See, this is one of the few times I can be right and the other person can still be happy with the outcome.

i finally got to hear this.....i still like this better than the "wall of sound" version....i don't know why....there's just more of a FM quality to it that's very reminiscient of "Gypsy"....I do agree that it seems to be a bit short....i would like to hear an instrumental part after the second chorus and then go into the third verse and maybe extend the end out a little bringing it up to at least five minutes.....maybe there is such a creature out there that may appear on the limited edition version or other. i guess it comes down to whether you want longer songs but less of them or shorter songs and more of them....i don't know which i would prefer but i guess if it's good it won't matter.

Thank you very much for posting that link. I'm still more fond of the 'wall of sound' version of the song, but it's still a great tune for me. Although, the best passage of the other version (Lindsey doing a high harmony during 'about just how much' in the end) is lost in this version...

I like this version much better! I thought Sharon and Mindy were too instrusive in the other one. They totally eliminated them. Yay!

Of course the "shaking the faith" addition is terrific and really improves the song.

One thing: Lindsey's spirited high harmony at the end is missing. I LOVED that. Oh, well, can't have everything.

That's really funny becuase that overkill one really annoyed me as Lindsey did the high part at the end, whereas Stevie had in the original demo. It seemed to be an important part of the song, and it anoyed me alot that Lindsey sang it becuase it was her song - I had assumed it was Lindsey because Stevie couldn't reach the notes...

Well, now Stevie's singing it again, and I think it's better than ever.

Am I on glue, or on the Wall of Sound version isn't Stevie singing higher THAN Lindsey on the last lines? Because when I sing along (as I always do) I can ALMOST reach Lindsey's notes, but have to sing Stevie's an octave lower.

I have to say I don't like this song toned down. And they took the power out of the chorus...now Stevie is singing the part Lindsey originally sang, and Lindsey is singing a lower harmony. They sang so powerfully in the older version, and to me it just seems watered down now...but I'm in the minority, so I guess it was the right move.

As for my opinion, I have to ask this question because it's been on my mind since I heard the new version of Smile at You: why is Lindsey being so reserved on her songs. It's beginning to become very conspicuous that he isn't letting loose with a killer guitar solo in either song. Both songs have demos that benefit from a little screamin' guitar, yet those licks are missing in these finished versions. The lack of a nice guitar solo a la "Sisters of the Moon" or "Gypsy" is starting to bug me. For that resaon, I think I'm more happy with the wall of sound version of Thrown Down. It rocks like rock in roll, not like a baby.

For ONCE I'm not in the minority. I'm really likin' the new version of this song with Stevie's vocals being passionate, strong, clear, and out front.

I love this version, it is very similar to the TISL demo. The quality of the clip is on AOL horrible, though. I love waht they did with the "you say you're sorry.." verse. Very Buckingham Nicks. It is a little shorter though. Maybe it's the next single?

Yes the quality of the clip is AWFUL! It is mono, not stereo and it distorts. I think I'll wait for the album to hear it again...it will sound 1000 times better.
