Are you suggesting that Ethan starts threads to get the attention of/draw the attention to a selectively particular group of 2-3 17-20 year old girls he likes?!? No way!
You mean to say that his recent "dating in other states" thread wasn't just a passive agressive swipe at his unrequited desire for Christine L? Learn something new every day! |

"In high school, I jealously watched my older sister on her laptop. She was on Facebook, a network exclusively for college kids. I couldn’t wait for college — if not for the freedom, then definitely for the college e-mail address that would grant my entry into the elite Facebook club. Fast forward four years, and the world is on Facebook. When Facebook extended its membership to high school students, my friends and I gladly canceled our MySpace accounts and made the switch. When my 12-year-old brother logged in, I was miffed, but I put him on limited profile and moved on. When my friends’ hip mothers picked up on the trend, I ignored my pangs of annoyance and begrudgingly accepted their requests. Now, my mom is begging me to let her create an account. Though I appreciate her asking my permission, I will deny her until I am 40. When my 80-year-old Grandma Hilda popped up as a “Friend I Might Know,” I lost it. What happened to my prized Facebook world, my online playground of funny photos and last night’s inside jokes plastered on my page for my friends and I to enjoy, away from the prying eyes of our nosy relatives? What was once the addictive toy for college students has become the entire world’s new pastime. Friends of mine have recently disabled their walls, made their pictures private or even removed their surname from their account, all in an effort to preserve their personal lives. We know that employers check out job applicants on the Internet. We must be responsible, but censoring ourselves makes Facebook lose part of its entertainment value. I keep my pictures classy, avoid crude remarks and prevent anything even slightly offensive from surfacing on my Web space, but the online perks of adolescent life are over. What was once a simple, social networking tool for students has become a database exchange for professors, parents and even children. Social networking is now public networking." I don't have Facebook either. Always seemed a bit labor intensive for my liking. :P As for the Ledge, I'm new...I've missed so much of the fun ![]() Last edited by GypsyBlueEyes; 11-23-2009 at 01:02 AM.. |

I too don't really think there have been definable eras in the Ledge. I've lurked since probably around '97-'98, but didn't join until '01 at JohnnyStew's urging. There is definitely a hugely different dynamic here than there was 10 years ago. Back at the turn of the millennia (
) the board was hugely cliquish and confrontational, and that's why I avoided joining up for so long. It's always been the single best source of information on the 'net though. Unfortunately, except for some long-termers like David and ChiliD, much of the deep well of knowledge on the Ledge has since moved on. There were a lot of crazy knowledgeable people here at one time, and now much of that has been lost. Not that I don't enjoy the newer crop of fans here... I do! In fact, the newer generation around here seems to be much more level headed and positive. But could I break the history of the Ledge into eras? Not really. Seems things started changing around here in '05ish, but that could just be me. All I know is that I'm enjoying the board now more than I ever have. ![]() |

Maybe I'm just getting old but I can't remember a thing about the Ledge back in 1997/98 even though I was here. I think I lurked more than posted then though. Michele asked me when I rejoined what my user-name was back then, and I couldn't really remember...it was all so long ago.
The only people I remember from back in the day were mainly from the newsgroup before the trolls got it. I think I just about recall a couple of names but even those memories are kind of fuzzy. I do remember I think that the ledge was closed down for a while when everything got a little too nasty. I agree with other posters though that there are certainly a large number of younger fans these days, and I assume most of them them have become fans due to the reforming of Fleetwood Mac. I suspect back in 1997 when I was 23 years of age I would have been one of the younger members at the time ![]() |

Well I've been on The Ledge for about 9 months now and I soooo wish I'd joined much, much earlier. I really enjoy this forum and have had some great chats with peiople in the past few months! I'm not going anywhere and look forward to the day when I'm classed as an old-time Ledgie!

Got there, bought the postcard & mailed it.
![]() Well, ya gotta remember, The Ledge was around before the 2000 date it shows that I signed up...that was just when Marty reopened revamped Ledge after he'd closed it for a while. The original Ledge was started in 95 or 96 or so...I've been around these here parts for somewhere close to 13 years.

I notice that you did not mention Tyshiria. Oversight?
My favorites include Ava, miriamswell, Garett & Jen (they are as one), Les, Lisa, Dan Matsumoto, probably Hayley, Brian J., Bly, sodascouts (despite her silly Stevie ideas), Brian (bjk3047), mike_nh, & even Hawkeye gets me in the funny bone. So many marvelous people -- hundreds, really.
