I thought that was a very telling comment from her. It would not surprise me if she believes that once the children are older, she and he will live out their lives together as they were 'meant to do' but couldn't manage in the usual way.
Equally, who's to say they won't????/

Also, I think the doc was a great prmotion for the band. I'vehad several people talk to me about it who hadn't followed the band since Tango in the night. So, good or lightweight, it did the group a lot of good to be remembered for an audience that doesn't follow fan forums but likes them.

I am unsure that is true. But, I am too lazy to go back and tabulate the reviews of the albums over the last 30+ years I mean Rumours consistently makes the lists from various critics of the best records of all time - that is critical acclaim But, to be sure, Tusk has a very high amount of critical acclaim.

No one said that the rest of the band had the point of view that Lindsey was the be all and end all.

Actually, you did when you said "I know and they must have known it too, otherwise they wouldn't have indulged him and allowed him (and the bathroom oohs) to create the most critically acclaimed album the band has ever generated, even if it's not the most popular."

Who is the "they" in your sentence? Presumably, you meant the band knowing that LB was the be all and end all. Or, "if it weren't for that musical genius, most of us would never have heard of FM at least on this side of the pond" to quote the original source you referred to and I paraphrased.

Maybe you are objecting to me equating "the be all and end all" with "if it weren't for that musical genius, most of us would never have heard of FM at least on this side of the pond." They sound the same to me. But, if it makes my point clear and if you want, substitute the latter for the former in all my posts in this thread

I disagreed and said most of us would never have heard of FM without the sum of the contribution of all the members. LB was just one part of that and I was pointing out that I do not think the band would take the point of view that "if it weren't for that musical genius, most of us would never have heard of FM at least on this side of the pond."

But that's not the same as "be all and end all." For example, I think the same statement could be said of SN and probably CM: "if it weren't for that musical genius, most of us would never have heard of FM at least on this side of the pond." The point is, given that understanding, how do the members accomadate each others' needs. The issue here was how the other band members accomodated LB (who is essential to the group), but we could also have a discussion about how LB and CM accomodated SN's needs because she, too, is essential.

What's really important here is that of these three arguably essential elements, the most needy is LB.

I did not say that and I actually was not responding to the pond comment, because I didn't know that Tusk made them famous on this side of the pond. I wasn't here then. In fact, if I'd been asked to guess, I would think they like Peter Green first, then Rumours and then Tango In the Night. I was responding to the idea that the band recognized Lindsey's genius and thought him to be a large part of the reason for Rumours' success. More than 20% of the reason for it, which is why they chose to indulge him on Tusk, even though they didn't agree with his musical outlook.

As for the band being more than the sum of its part, I've always thought so, which is why I've missed Christine since she left.

Thats exactly what I thought the second she said it. I don't know exactly what she meant by it though...but it is obvious that she's got something particular in mind.

I do have a question though. The narration says that Christine was the "female songwriter reluctant to front the band." Are there any quotes from her or anyone else in FM that support this? I would be interested to know if that were true and, if so, why she was reluctant to be the face of FM as it were at that time?

Stevie's said it numerous times that Christine never wanted to be the one up front... I think even Christine has said it in interviews that she considered herself more a part of the rhythm section then the upfront person...

Surprised me, too. But then again, Stevie has spent her professional life around Leslies. She's probably also sat on more than a few of them, waving her bat wings above her.

It did sound like she was a bit awed by what he did.
Musicians use Leslies to amp all sorts of instruments, both typical & atypical.

I guess I always just took that to mean that she wouldn't have wanted to front Fleetwood Mac as it became after Stevie and Lindsey joined and they all became super famous. In my mind, when imagining what it must have been like before Stevie & Lindsey, I always thought a bluesy FM fronted by Christine...maybe not literally out front as Stevie and Lindsey did...but just there to the side with her keyboard would have made a pretty great show. It would have been a perfect setup for smaller venues with smaller stages. I definitely would have paid to see it!

That would have been nice, really cool. But I remember Christine saying in print interviews during her 1984 solo tour that she preferred not to be the star of the show or to sing lead on every song.

She seems to prefer being part of a group with multiple leads.

Well, I can't blame her for that. I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to sing lead on every song either...or at all for that matter

Thanks for the info

She seems to be living or hanging on to the past...she needs to get over the fact that he probably is pretty nice to her now...he's just married to someone else! Love ya Stevie anyway!

lol...I was just thinking about the part of the doc where they were talking about how all the fans started to dress like Stevie and Mick said something about how they used to look out into the audience and they could see thousands of Stevie's and then, to illustrate what they were doing, he did the Rhiannon dance a la Stevie and he sang "Rhiaaaaaaaaaanon." I know it only lasted for a second but I laugh every time I see it.

I personally think that the kids have helped her keep her emotional distance. Believe what you want about their relationship during The Dance tour, but I still think there are some loose strings hanging around between those two and they (or, at least, Stevie) doesn't want to tie them just yet.
