You're right about Lindsey though. I'm sure he snickers if he ever reads it or gets wind of it... (like when she calls him on the phone and quotes it to him verbatim) ...

This makes me think of that thread we had talking about whether Mick and Stevie went to Lindsey together to tell him about their affair. Can you just see them knocking on his door and explaining, then when he didn't break down in tears, Stevie decides to act it out for him. "I never wanted you to know, but then I reached up to Mick like this . . . " demonstrating with one eye on Mick and the other eye gauging Lindsey's response.

I just love how, during whatever interview, she could be talking about the yearly precipitation in Arizona, the economic downfall in this past year alone, the resurgence of distressed denim on everyone, no matter what LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM always ends up becoming part of the topic of conversation. "Oh, when Lindsey and I were in Arizona..." or "Lindsey hasn't been hit as hard as us with this economic situation because he's frugal..." or "Speaking of distressed denim, I'm remembering when I used to sew things on Lindsey's jeans..."

I mean, if the man disgusts you that much WHY is he always brought up. I avoid people I can't stand. But people I love...I can't stop thinking/talking/dreaming about them. I'm sure if I was a songwriter, well...

You're absolutely right. Lindsey and I never would have done drugs, if we hadn't come to Los Angeles. Lindsey and I invested our money. She always speaks in terms of being paired with him and they were only a couple for a short period of time. I mean, they've known each other for over 40 years now, but they were living together for less than 20% of that time. So, there's no reason to talk about him the way she does.

Ugh, I sometimes wish Stevie would stop, take a breath and THINK about how she words things. I honestly don't think she means to be condescening or arrogant or ANYTHING...I think she really doesn't word her thoughts correctly (which is so ironic seeing what a great writer is). I think when she said that about Lindsey, I really believe that she meant it positively. That a wonderful thing ABOUT him was how he loved her.

As for the whole Joe Walsh thing *rolls eyes*. I think we've all been in situations where we look back on something that wasn't so wonderful but remembered the good things. I do it all the time with certain ex-boyfriends. Then, you remember. I obviously know nothing about any of the private moments between Stevie and Joe but I do know that he treated her terribly. Some of the things he said about her, the way he constantly abandoned her...everything. And yes, we can say he was on drugs and was messed up- She was messed up herself. Still, the fact is he did treat her that way and it really does break my heart that she holds him on that pedestal.

and maybe it's just me but...I love Say You Will. I really do!

I think she meant it that way and that the message is not only that Lindsey loved her that much, but that she never loved him as much in return. I think that's the impression that she wants to leave, although I don't think it's a reflection of what she really feels.

And it's not that this behavior is one-sided on her part. Lindsey has done it too. I mean, he was the one saying that Stevie and Mick were in cahoots to get him to stand closer to her on stage and play up their star crossed love and -- true or not -- I think he would only say that to be petty. And I know I think he was doing a Rolling Stone interview in the eighties and Stevie called him on the phone and he said something to the writer about her longing for his approval. I mean, I think she DOES want his approval. She is the one who said that she hoped he was finally just a little bit proud of her when she did the TISL album. So, I don't think what he said was untrue, but I do think he said it to be mean.

So, he says things to needle her just the same way she does it to him. The only difference is, Lindsey's behavior in that regard, his propensity to take jabs at her through the media, has improved and become a lot less frequent over the years. Hers hasn't. I'm not saying he's not being just as childish with her in private as she is, but he's not doing it overtly in public as much as she is.

" I didn't like the songs" is the quote that's staying with me, some 8 hours after having read the article. She didn't say "I didn't like my songs"- I have a feeling she did like her songs, 'Silver Girl' and all. Yet, she didn't come out and say "I didn't like Lindsey's songs on SYW" but I think that may be closer to the truth.
Regarding some of the comments here about 'Tusk'- it was as early as 1986 when Stevie said that she did like the album. The famous Australian interview- with Molly somebody (a guy) and she said something like "I liked that album a lot and even liked Lindsey's songs on it a lot, which is what most of the criticism was about"-- she also commented she thought it was an album that could take a long time for people to 'get' but that eventually, in their quiet, alone, time, there'd be a lot of people who would really appreciate 'Tusk' and she was glad they made the album. Stevie then sang a smidge of 'Walk A Thin Line'- one song of LB's that I totally love (there are others) and it would be heaven to hear her do the song completely.

I do remember Stevie saying when Tusk came out that she liked Walk a Thin Line, when asked to name one of Lindsey's songs that she liked on the album. Then of course we have the reference in the Mirror, Mirror lyrics. I really like that. Michele

Since when does she think someone else could have done a better job with her songs? This part just baffles me. I mean, Petty says he thinks LB is her best producer...she was falling all over herself wanting LB to work with her again...so why does she feel this way about the SYW songs? I am having a hard time justifying this line of thinking. Are we saying that Lindsey's "lost his touch" - or just with her songs?

Am I the only person who likes SYW??
