Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band

There are two types of tribute bands. One tries to imitate the original, trying to replicate their look on stage. The performers wear clothes reminiscent of what the original wears and imitate what they do on stage. This is a difficult type of tribute to pull off, because the performers have to act and have a certain "look." From the clips I don't think Wildheart succeeds at this. (They split Christine into two people, as if she was the victim of a transporter malfunction.)

The second type of tribute band is really a cover band. They perform the songs of the original but don't make any attempt to act out their stage act. This is easier to do because it doesn't matter if they don't look or act like the original performers.

For a group like Fleetwood Mac, where stage personalities are such a big part of the experience, it seems that an imitation band has a very difficult task. I think I'd rather hear a cover band who played their songs without making an effort to make the audience think it was watching the real band.

I agree. What "Wildheart" seems to be doing makes me cringe a bit. (Especially at 1:56 of that video)

I saw a "cover band" in Orlando at Hard Rock and they played every song off Rumours... without trying to look like the band. They didn't try to replicate the record perfectly, just their own interpretations of it. It was quite entertaining.

But it's the other type of tribbie band that gets booked at the casinos, city parks, festivals, & fairs. It's pretty big business.

I saw Sticky Fingers play at the Redondo Beach Beachstock one year. They're a Rolling Stones tribute -- looks, sound, everything. They were awesome.

This is a great thread for me. I play with FM tribute band. We just did our first performance - a sold out show at The Majestic Theater in West Springfield Mass. We went somewhere in between. Our lead singer wore Nix-inspired outfits, our lead guitarist wore Pittsburg Penguins T-shirt. The audience seemed to like the outfits.

I disagree. I think "Stevie" is pretty good. "Christine," on the other hand, is horrible. Her country diva style of singing is nothing like the real Christine. And she doesn't play keyboards.

That's the thing... if you're gonna imitate them to a physical point, i.e wearing the band's clothing and what not you should sound a helluva lot like them. I don't think WildHeart is pulling it off. Kudos for them getting out there and trying, but it's not working for them.

Agreed. Although the other girl that is play pretending Christine isn't too awful. She doesn't much sound like her, but she sounded better than the other one.

I think if I had the opportunity to see a FM tribute band, I might.

I have seen one tribute band here in the UK, "Rumours of Fleetwood Mac" .. which I quite enjoyed. I think it's about expectations though.. and mine were pretty low, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I guess you have to give them all at least some credit... I mean.. if you're thinking of putting together any kind of tribute band.. there are mucchhhh easier options than The Mac!!
