BTW - that has nothing to do with what you asserted in the passage quoted above. In any event, if it bugs you, put the offenders on ignore - that is what it is for ![]() Last edited by strandinthewind; 04-29-2009 at 09:47 PM.. |

get off the cross, we need the wood.i never said everyone has to call her "mama." in fact, i rarely call her that. my position in this thread has been "why is it such a big deal what people call her?" if it just irks you, i can understand that. sh*t happens. i don't, for example, like the russian word for "furniture." it just sounds gross to me. what i don't understand is the people who think it's disrespectful and offensive. it is ridiculous, overprotective, and extreme to read that much into it. re: the contrived rationale comment, i wasn't talking about you. but since you're talking about my alleged hypocrisy, can we talk about your narcissism? ![]() i don't see how this has anything to do with either beating down dissenting opinions or open-mindedness. you brought up the "hypocrisy" of the POVs in the racism thread vs.the POVs in this thread, and i see the same sentiment being expressed in both - that many people will dig deep into something small in order to be offended. how can it be a pile-on when 10 people have said they don't like calling her "mama" and only 5 people have disagreed? and finally, can we abolish "open-mindedness" from the vernacular? because it really means nothing. you can say that i'm not being open-minded because i don't understand why people take issue with stevie being called "mama." i could say you're not being open minded because you are intolerant of her being called "mama." let's just lump it in with other buzzwords like "misogyny," "oppression," and "offensive" -- words that, due to their abuse in popular discourse, have been drained of any real meaning. |

Yes, I have no doubt that there exists some fan fic in which she is called "Steve."
But doesn't it make sense to go for something intimate and rare? Making Joseph, "Joe" instead, just doesn't cut it. So, rudimentary. Instead, try Laura Ingalls Wilder calling her hubby Almanzo, "Manly." Now, the rest of the world might choose "Manny" as a common nickname for him, but "Manly" is hers exclusively. An appellation tailor made for indelicate daydreams. Names are funny vehicles. Whenever Johnny Carson would call Lauren Bacall "Betty", I felt I was getting a glimpse behind the fame. Same thing when Robert Wagner is called "RJ" in public. Now, you can do the converse and add panache to the pedestrian, as well. It's always a nice when Mick introduces "Stephanie Lynn Nicks" . The unexpected formality is grand and elevating. Michele |

As I told in my Dallas review, Stevie was not the girl I saw in all live videos before. She was more like a senior lady singer, as I have seen other mature singers. But she was very sweet. Come on, she is 60! she can't sing or dance Rhiannon like in the 70s..
Lindsey was the leader of the show, no doubt. But Stevie performed very good, i liked her a lot
