That depends. I don't seem to be getting an answer here. Just some folks who think i was overly criticizing the recordings here from Detroit.

If some would just listen to what i'm talking about (using the example provided) i may be able to glean a few pointers on what not to do/or do.

The recordings here were NOT that great.
Am I appreciative that these people gave a great effort? Of course I am! Its awesome they did it and even bothered to share at all.

I'm just looking for how they did it and why the quality seemed to shift from fantastic to not so great. That way in TO I can avoid what happened to this one.

Test,

Since I didn't record the show I don't feel it is my place to answer your questions...... maybe you can try to PM Melacine (Shel) privately????

Test,
Test,

just go Digital for a$ much a$ you can afford,

there's not a lot you can do to avoid the crowd noise,

btw, the Security in T.O. will be much tougher than it was in Detroit,.... (just cause it is),....

they don't even like you taking photographs, or video, never mind trying to capture a Hi-Def Audio recording of the show......

good luck.....

yea the crowd noise is unavoidable but i like the authenticity it brings.

I was under the impression that the BAND decides whether or not cameras can be used during the venue. (Yes I realize audio is whole other ball of wax)
If i go on the ACC website and they say cameras permitted (as they did in Detroit then I don't see a problem. Allowing cameras does make it easier to get a small recorder though.

I mean I had my camera around my neck at the Palace. No problems at all.

test,

PS, YYZ wins hands down.

Yeah, it seems like they don't mind regular photos... Apparently, as I discovered, the only rule is no video. I still snagged some 30 second vids of the important things...

Kennation, I haven't read this whole thread. Did you happen to upload any of your videos to YouTube?

No, they were terrible. The sound was awful. Sorry, but they are so bad I wont even set down and watch them. They were only like 15-25 seconds a piece. I took them on my phone. I am thinking becuase I was standing infront of a HUGE speaker and the drums were right in front of me that the sound is just too much for my phone to record. I should have brought a REAL camera. Sorry...

It totally depends on what the band wants..... the last time they were at Auburn Hills cameras were not allowed--and I got escorted out with my camera at a Guns N' Roses concert at the same venue.... it just depends on whether the artist says it is okay or not...... usually in the past I have found with the Mac and Stevie that they don't allow them--this last show and 1 Stevie show at DTE were the only shows I've been to Mac related that totally allowed picture taking........ every other concert that I've been able to sneak cameras into Mac related I got told to put it away or had my batteries taken away.....

ive never been to any show where theyve confiscated a camera or asked you to stop filming

going to the movies on the other hand...you need to leave your phone at the door

What? You mean you turn it off when you come in or you actually have to physically leave it at the door? No way would I do that.

Test,

I just haven't looked at the boards since you posted, I'm not ignoring your questions! I used a small digital voice recorder, it's an Olympus model DS-30 with a stereo microphone (you can Google it to see the size).

I kept it in my huge open purse the entire night which was on my shoulder. I'm pretty happy with the overall quality, although I haven't listened to the entire show yet (I only got about half way through so far).

It's so much easier than when i used to smuggle the full cassette tape sized recorder in! ha ha and now I don't have to worry about counting songs and flippng sides

luv,
Shel

luv,

And my recorder used to have a red light on it and I would always have to tape that over, but you could still see it glowing. Once the lights went down, it seemed to be a beacon to alert security that was taping.

Ahhhh thank you sooo much melacine.

I KNEW it. You can tell when you shift the recorders position in your purse, or when you change which shoulder its on....lol.

You see, now I know that if i bring a recorder like that, having it in a pocket or "manpurse"...lol will not work for what I want. The high end gets hits pretty hard.
I know... I know many of your aren't audiophiles and don't care. Thats ok.

But...boy i wish you could have had that recorder outside of your purse all night....lol

Thank you soooo much sharing your files and your info! I really appreciate it!
