Lindsey's voice on the other hand is too raspy, too crackily and well, too aged to maintain this shouting he's doing. From the get-go of Monday Morning onwards he's totally straining it! Quality over quantity in my opinion. While his guitar playing is still brilliant, his voice is nowhere near the quality it was for SYW tour, I think.

Singing is not about "key". It's about passion. Whatever you think about LB's voice, you can't say he's singing flat and uninspired on any song. THAT'S the whole diffference. Lindsey has NEVER been the great exceptional singer. And he strained his voice on every live tour ever done. It's always been the way he sings. Remember the sixteen screams from Not That funny on Fleetwood Mac Live? At thirty that sounds different then at sixty.

Well, who can forget Lindsey's frenzy on the Mirage video for The Chain. He's "running, running, running in the shadows" and Stevie is looking at him like he just might be insane.

He's always been like that. I always liked this review of the Us Festival which commented upon his howling tendencies:

As a great admirer of Buckingham's eccentric solo album "Law and Order" (1981), I was prepared for a certain amount of manneristic excess, but Buckingham outdid himself last Sunday, plucking his guitar in a furious, spastic blur and yelling out delicate lyrics in a werewolf's croon.

That's Ken Tucker, one of the most astute American critics among all the critics who loved Fleetwood Mac. I'd like to ask Wolf just what Tucker's "game" or "agenda" was all those yrs.

Nobody would agree more than me than theres more to singing than singing on point. And I'm all for passion aswell. I just don't think he can maintain this decibel for the whole tour. I really don't. Those vocal chords aint gettin any younger and while I'm not saying he shouldn't give it his all for every performance (which he does, and which I always admire about him), we're only a week in and as somebody said previously said, already, "its not too pleasing on the ear".

Hmm, maybe Stevie doesn't want to compete with the howling actually.

Oh, he can keep it up the whole tour. He did that for the SYW tour. He can scream endlessly. As far as what it's doing to his singing voice . . . Yes, he's lost a lot of that and I don't mind it, unless I have to listen to him croaking through Shut Us Down on Elizabethtown: The Sequel. That would be very painful. Other than that, I say let the larynx rip.

I thought this sounded pretty good for a capture. Of course, it would be hard for me to give an opinion of an UNLEASHED performance considering I have yet to attend a show in person.
Also, this is LINDS on his own without msnicks. Again, looking forward to a full HD boot

That video kinda makes the point for the people saying his voice sounds bad. I am a little biased cause I never liked Big Love live, the ending is painful.

I'd rather hear a painful crack on a line that's sung from the gut than no gut at all in the right key. as long as you can keep singing a song with a meaningful passion, I don't care about the loss of range. Yeah, that's the reason she's "letting Lindsey shine." His voice bothers her so much, and timid and soft-spoken as she is she won't just tell him to take it down a few notches and instead allows him to outshine her throughout the concert.

I really enjoy well-constructed arguments and critiques hardly bother me much, but I sometimes think we all take them for granted. Like, they aren't getting any younger and, who knows, Lindsey or Stevie may never perform again for whatever reason (this is hypothetical, I'm not being pessimistic/morbid) and all we may have to remember the last moments is this tour and these endless threads of us bitching about how their voices suck and they have no stage presence.

Maybe we should take a minute to smell the roses and be grateful they are out there at all.

I never agreed that she was letting him shine, that would just be insulting BOTH our divas to be honest.
They're both doing great on that stage.
They both deserve both positive and negative criticism.
They both have my utmost respect as performers, and have done with years.
All I was saying was that Lindsey's voice can come off quite shrill and unbearable at times.
But then again, Stevies can come across quite mundayne.


I was actually being sarcastic with the "not competing with the howling" comment.
