Its so sad to hear this. I have to say I felt the same way when I saw them on the Say You Will tour in the US and UK. Stevie did not have the energy I know she has when she is solo, she appears to lack confidence when she is with FWM, she did not smile or make any eye contact with the audience. If you watch what she was like when she toured with the Mac without Lindsey, she seemed much happier then. Lindsey, on the other hand on Say You Will was completely the other way and was a fantastic show person, we strummed his guitar etc. I am more of a Stevie fan than FWM but I would be honoured if FWM including Stevie performed in the UK again, even if Stevie doesn't have that energy with the Mac I would love to see her again, with or without the Mac.

Stevie's got plenty of energy. I just don't think "Fleetwood Mac" is where her heart lies at this point. She's plenty happy and animated away from Lindsey. Check out The Nicks Fix and you'll see her interacting on the front page video with Chris Isaak.

My parents are no longer the dynamos they were just ten years ago. Does this mean I should just give up on them and put them out to pasture. My dog is 11 years old and I remember the days of her running around the park like a raging lunatic. Today she can barely make it up the stairs. Should I have her euthanized? And believe me I have been shelling out money on family members, friends and pets for years and all of them have changed in some way. Does this mean that I give up? They are still the same beings just different! Sorry that Stevie dissapoints you and others, but I hardly think it is time for her to put away the shawls.

you are not the first person to draw a parallel between the relationship he has with stevie and the relationships he has with people who are closer to him. this is interesting to me because no matter how great a connection anyone feels with her music, no one here is a close friend of stevie's. no one here is her family. the reality is that the relationship you have with stevie is not analogous to the relationship you have with your friends and family.

all that aside, i don't think anyone is taking issue with change. change is not inherently bad. it's an inevitability. experience, circumstance, and our own temperaments conspire to shape us through the years. the changes many of us see in stevie reveal her to be disengaged, inert, and contemptuous towards music consumers, and those are the qualities that leave a bitter taste in our mouths.

and, ironically, in many ways it is her inflexibility that rankles. she isn't making new music. she isn't offering new perspectives on the old stuff. she isn't collaborating with interesting people, branching out into other forms of art and media, or connecting with her fans in innovative ways. i mean she abandoned the nicks fix for a gazillion years and then the best we got was "the kennedy's" (sic)?

despite her convincing arguments on the destiny rules doc against the double album concept, she does not understand this brave new music world. while other older artists, like annie lennox, are embracing the (not so) new technology of itunes and youtube, stevie has deemed computers evil and has said that making a new album isn't worth it because people will just steal the music anyway.

lindsey is arguably the most shameless member of the band when it comes to admitting that the "unleashed" tour is nothing but a cash grab, but even he has released 2 albums in the last 2-3 years, well aware that he could never dream of approaching rumours-era sales. this leads me to believe that latter-day stevie is little more than a mercenary whose muse dried up decades ago.

and re: giving up on the people in your life who have changed:

that depends heavily on the circumstances. but i have cut people out of my life who turned into utterly unrecognizable incarnations of themselves. i don't see anything wrong with limiting or eliminating your exposure to someone whose presence in your life results in a net loss. i think that's what many of us have experienced with stevie.

i disagree. i think when anyone is overinvested in a celebrity (and we have all been there - even those of us who are bitter and jaded and over stevie), it says more about a person's weaknesses than his or her strengths. it doesn't matter who the celebrity in question is; by and large i think the people who become enthralled do it because they feel the celeb represents something that is missing in their lives. why else would someone pour so much money and time into a group of people who will never play a tangible role in their lives? it's the reason that meeting your idols is so often a disappointment. the reality is always shaped differently than the hole the fantasy filled.

I was watching one of Annie Lennox's video blogs the other day and I couldn't help but think of Stevie. Annie is around 8 or so years younger than Stevie but has basically done the complete opposite of Stevie: embraced the internet. Like it or not, that's the direction the world has gone in and smart artists are using it to their advantage.

I think Lindsey's creative output in the last three years only underscores Stevie's lack of output. It seems more than a little ironic that it's Lindsey now who is enjoying a thriving solo career, along with his work in Fleetwood Mac.

It's not an age thing. It's a Fleetwood Mac thing. I just find it so hard to believe that back when the FM members were in their late 40's/early 50's during The Dance era, they were already considered to be among the old irrelevant rock 'n' roll dinosaurs, and FM pretty much played to that stereotype by dwelling on the past and failing to remain contemporary. By sharp contrast, today we have artists in that same 40's/50's age range like U2, Madonna, Annie Lennox, Sheryl Crow, etc. who are not only totally relevant/contemporary, they are still forging new artistic territory for themselves. And even older artists like Carly Simon (almost 64) and Paul McCartney are still cranking out new music and delving into uncharted territory. For someone who claims to be so current on newer music like Rihanna, Coldplay and Feist, Stevie appears to surround herself in a retro time warp. I am not expecting Stevie to start a Facebook page and twittering her daily activities; but she should at least come to grips with the current state of the world and try to make the best of it.

Seriously? Have you watched the videos? Lindsey certainly is having fun, and I imagine John and Mick are too.

I have been a Stevie/Mac fan for over 25 years and I have seen every single tour (including solo tours) up until this point. I have been to pretty much every opening night show as well and yes, I have seen Stevie nervous during those performances. However, this was a completely different story. She was simply unprofessional last night and could not even muster 10% of the energy level that the rest of the band put forth. She forgot the words to most of the songs (including Rhiannon & Dreams which she has now performed 1000s of times in her career). She kept playing with her ear pieces the whole night and kept talking to the guys handling the sound. This was of course not the first time I have seen her do such things over the years. But not to this extent. At one point Lindsey was about to start singing one of his songs (can't remember which one right now) and she was still mouthing something to someone toward the side of the stage. Sorry, but that is unprofessional. It was a distraction and quite annoying, I must say. Weak vocals throughout (with the exception of certain parts of "Sara", "Storms", and the very ending of "Silver Springs" when she shouted "never get away, never get away, never get away"). The rest of her performance however was a mess. Again, she didn't seem nervous at all. If anything, she seemed quite relaxed. Maybe she was heavily medicated, who knows. But if it's an opening night show in a semi-major market, you better bring your "A" game, and she sure didn't. She didn't dance, she hardly played the tambourine, she forgot the words to almost every song, she constantly missed her cues, her eyes were shut for more than half of each song, she kept mouthing stuff to the sound guys, she kept playing with her ear pieces, and yet still managed to smile throughout. How precious.

Anyway, I don't want this to come across as if I'm picking on Stevie because of her age. I am not at all. If she's having a problem moving around on stage, I would have no problem with her standing at the microphone the entire night and REALLY singing out her songs. But she couldn't even do that either. She lacked passion, focus, and enthusiasm. She was clearly out of pace with the rest of the band and honestly, they deserved much better than that. Lindsey's performance was excellent. Sure, his vocals weren't exactly perfect either, but at least he belted them out with passion and energy and played his butt off on the guitar. I would expect nothing less from him and he certainly delivered. Same for John and Mick. All three of them are professional musicians and they performed beautifully. They were all "in the moment", except unfortunately for their front woman who was clearly on some other planet.
DUDE!!! She was talking to Ashley because Ash couldn't go backstage and Stevie was asking her how she was and apologized to Ash that she didn't have any time for a personal visit. Get your stuff straight!

AND I was there opening night of the SYW tour and she totally stayed at the mike all night, no dancing, SHE WAS NERVOUS!! She also wore the skinny heel boots that night with the ankle strap; and then a few shows later she started wearing the frankenboks - she was in pain, was it less of a show? NO! She also tones it down from solo tours because she doesn't want to piss off Linds. Geez! Let's see you at age 60, singing and dancing for 2 1/4 hours!

What Stevie's doing right now: being fabulous

What Stevie's feeling right now: perturbed that Karen didn't dim the lights correctly. it's all about lighting

What Stevie's wearing right now: a long flowing silken nightgown & fluffy slippers - damn feet hurt from wearing those stupid boots so the fans don't bitch about it

What Stevie's doing right now: still being fabulous, watching Karen put music into an ipod for the soldiers

What Stevie's feeling right now: pissed that Lindsey wore red too & stole some of my thunder for wearing a different color for once

Yes it is not a personal relationship but it is a relationship just the same. One that has gone on for many many years. I was not comparing my relationship with family, friends etc to the more superficial one with a celebrity. I was acknowledging the fact that just because someone changes, they are still the same person.

I have left people in the dust in my life who were inherently detrimental to either the relationship or my mental state. Stevie seeming bored at a concert or not releasing new music is not detrimental and is not making me lose any sleep.

Most people don't know Ashley from Adam, nor should they. If she couldn't go backstage, how was Stevie talking to her at the side of the stage? Also, any conversation should have taken place between songs, not when your fellow bandmates have begun performing.

I understand what you are saying, but come on now. Lindsay is still
preforming I'm so afraid how many times now. And big love is boring now.
I saw him solo two years ago, I liked him but he is still doing the samething.
I think if it wasn't for his children, he would still be in the studio forever making that solo album. Sorry Stevie is FM....Yes if she wanted to, she
would still out sell Lindsay, he didn't sell that many cd's...Was he nominated
for a grammy with his two solo cd's no....He's no better. I think he is
showing off, because not a lot of people showed at his concerts. When I
went the hall held 3,000 seats, only 800 maybe were there....
Sorry that's my opinion....
