Artists Who Should Be In The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame But Aren't.
by Russell Hall September 25, 2008 - Each year, around this time, rock fans get to wring their hands over artists who are overlooked by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The logic that drives member-selection remains one of life's great mysteries, but it's a safe bet that industry politics plays a prime role. Not only are worthy artists absent, but artists who figured prominently in the careers of inducted bands have sometimes been neglected as well. Bob Welch, for instance, played a central role in Fleetwood Mac's transition toward a more commercially viable pop-rock sound, and yet the Hall ignored Welch completely when Fleetwood Mac was inducted. The fact that AC/DC and Aerosmith are in the Hall, but the original Alice Cooper Group is not, is mind-boggling. From 1971 through 1973, the Alice Cooper Group unleashed four albums that shaped the rock landscape for years to come. Artists as diverse as ZZ Top and Kiss have cited Cooper as an influence. More importantly, "School's Out," "I'm Eighteen" and "Elected" have gone on to become American rock classics. http://music.ign.com/articles/913/913420p1.html |

well actually I think everyone should have been inducted when FM was. Surely you don't just induct half a band. Thats like saying Mick John Chris you are in but sorry Stevie and Lindsey we just ain't gonna add you.
Sixteen people made the Mac, sixteen people should have been inducted. Maybe only Bob Brunning could be argued about. Poor old Bob Welch though always seemed to get a rough deal, even amongst Mac fans. |

Agreed, you should have all the members of a band. Some members who've had a minor involvement you could argue against but Welch is as worthy to be inducted as Green and Buckingham. Sales success should not be a factor.

Even someone like Billy Burnette should have been there. He was in the band for what 8 years or so? So yes, definitely Bob Welch and definitely Billy Burnette in my opinion. I'm still of the belief that everyone should have been in, but then I'm biased as a Dave Walker/Rick Vito fan.

EVERYBODY in the Grateful Dead was inducted. So, how they can logically consider Donna Jean Godchaux Hall Of Fame worthy and not Bob Welch just pisses me off to NO end.

I go to Cleveland twice a year(my home town) and I will never and I mean never step foot into that building... leaving Bob Welch out indicates to me that they know nothing about music... They know sales and commericial success (which incidently Bob Welch achieved)... Rush is still not in there as well???
Never!!!

I think this is why bands like Yes, Deep Purple, and Jethro Tull aren't in the HoF.
All three have gone through major personnel (and music) changes over the years. As a fan of these bands, I have a biased view that they should be inducted. The other strike against them is I think there's a built in bias among the voters concerning progressive rock . So I salute the Sex Pistols for telling them where to stick it! Fleetwood Mac were too large in stature to be ignored. The Bob Welch snub could be from Mick Fleetwood himself? He should be inducted regardless. The Grateful Dead only changed the keyboard player four times while the creative core remained intact (Donna Jean Godchaux did write "From the Heart of Me" after all, that's HoF worthy ).To sum it all up, I think Fleetwood Mac is one of a few if any bands in the RnR HoF that have gone through so many line-up changes. Good responses. Beyond Bob Welch, two other words sum up why the RRHOF is basically bunk: Moody Blues. Don't like those two? Ok, try Jethro Tull.
I could go on but for the redundancy. Pfffft |
