Question "Talk to me" different version question

Check out this page at The Penguin discography:

http://www.fleetwoodmac.net/penguin/albums/onlyrock.htm

Now, what's the deal with TTM on this V/A comp album supossedly being "different to the RAL version"? Anybody know? If so, please let me/everybody know in what way it's different as this is new news to me. Any help would be great. Thanks!

John

(Hey I owe you an email! Will do so soon.)

I have that compiliation! There are no liner notes at all to indicate that it's a different version, but it very much is. It's a different vocal take than the album, a little more grittier. And the mix is much heavier on the the synths, and even the drum track may be different. Ironically, the song Talk To Me preceeds Say You Will (by Foreigner) on this this compiliation. Why was the song remixed and released obscurely like this? It's a Mystery To Me!

Although I don't know for sure, but I don't think this version of "Talk To Me" was remixed specifically for this compilation. It actually sounds like an earlier version. The one on RAL is more "polished," if you will. Now the question to ask is, why did they choose to include this version over the one that most people know, which is the album version. Do you think when the label sent the other label (the one that released the compilation) the mix of the song, someone goofed and accidentally sent the earlier version? Maybe we should "ask Stevie" on the nicksfix.

I used to hear this "original" version of Talk To Me on the radio. Back in '85 when they released the single (before RAL was reseased) one of the radio staions in Greensboro played that version often — while other staions played the normal version. I don't know how they got a hold of promo of this early version. But it a treat when it was finally released (probably as an accident) on that "Hits of 1985 CD"
