Default Wonder Woman on Palin

Clipped from an interview with Lynda Carter, when asked about Sarah Palin.

[Philadelphia magazine]
What's What With ... Lynda Carter
By Victor Fiorillo

From seemingly out of nowhere, Lynda Carter, known best for her '70s role as Wonder Woman, turned up this week in Atlantic City to begin a three-week concert run at Harrah's. I caught up with her this morning to discuss nude scenes, boozing, this so-called "Wonder Woman" Sarah Palin, and, oh yeah, music ...

Q: Okay, last question. I'm sure you've seen all the comparisons in the media
and among Republicans of Sarah Palin to Wonder Woman. How do you feel about that?

A: "Don't get me started. She's the anti-Wonder Woman. She's judgmental and dictatorial, telling people how they've got to live their lives. And a superior religious self-righteousness ... that's just not what Wonder Woman is about. Hillary Clinton is a lot more like Wonder Woman than Mrs. Palin. She did it all, didn't she?

No one has the right to dictate, particularly in this country, to force your
own personal views upon the populace religious views. I think that is
suppressive, oppressive, and anti-American. We are the loyal opposition. That's the whole point of this country: freedom of speech, personal rights, personal freedom. Nor would Wonder Woman be the person to tell people how to live their lives. Worry about your own life! Worry about your own family! Don't be telling me what I want to do with mine.

I like John McCain. But this woman? It's anathema to me what she stands for. I think America should be very afraid. Very afraid. Separation of church and state is the one thing the creators of the Constitution did agree on. That it wasn't to be a religious government. People should feel free to speak their minds about religion but not dictate it or put it into law.

What I don't understand, honestly, is how anyone can even begin to say they know the mind of God. Who do they think they are? I think that's ridiculous. I know what God is in my life. Now I am sure that she's not all just that. But it's enough to me. It's enough for me to have a visceral reaction. And it makes me mad.

People need to speak up. Doesn't mean that I'm godless. Doesn't mean that I am a murderer. What I hate is this demonization of everybody but one position. You're un-American because you're against the war. It's such bull****. Fear. It's really such a finite way of thinking about God to think that your measley little mind can know the mind of God. It's a very little God that way. I think that God's bigger. I don't presume to know his mind. Or her mind."

I thought this was interesting particularly in light of the fact that Lynda Carter has long been a Republican.

I like Lynda Carter. She's cool and all. But i find it fascinating that we care so much about what celebrities think. Like they are people that are firmly grounded in any sort of reality. Hahaha...ahhhh man. I mean, what is Carter exactly an expert on? I guess you have to take it for what it is...magazine fluff.

Me to, to a degree at least. But, as an American, her opinion is just as valid as the next person's opinion. Not that you are doing this, but to discount it further than a lay opinion solely because they are a celebrity is incorrect IMO.

In this instance, I totally agree with what she said in her lay opinion. And, I think it is more interesting because she supposedly is a staunch R, yet, she varies from that in regards to Pain and Palin's obvious disregard for the separation of Church and State.

Also, there are varying levels of lay opinions. I mean look at Bill O'Reilly - he reads the same shiitte I do. Other than he is on tv, he, like me, is not a politician. So, what makes his opinion significantly better than mine?

Finally, and to the point, do you agree with what LC says in her lay opinion. It was the point I was making in the other thread, which is worship whenever, where ever, and however you want, just do not pass a law making me do the same.

Lynda Carter went to Arcadia High School -- she's a fellow alumna of Stevie Nicks.

No, I liked the fact that she pointed it out as her opinion. Like so many opinions...they stink! hahaha...I like what O'Reilly SEEMINGLY tries to do on his network by giving "balanced" reportage. I don't know he really pulls it off very well, because it's no secret that he is conservatively biased. But that's just it isn't? We're all going to be on different sides of the fence. Until they create a drug that turns us all into robots...

I feel in my gut that if Pain had that drug, it would be in the drinking water as we speak (joking)

I just do not get how you can't see that no member of government has any right to pass a law or perform an official action telling you how, what, and where to worship - that is the very basis on which this country was founded. But, so be it.

Way to go Lynda! (and I am pretty sure she is a Democrat. I remember seeing her on a VH1 Special...'Hey! Remember to Love the 70's in 3D' or something, and she mentioned wanting to tie Pres. Bush up in the magic lasso and ask him a few questions.)
