Nico, I'm intrigued with your Jacob/Bob Dylan & Jackson Browne choices! I never knew that offspring of ol' Bobby had such depth to his lyrics ;-)
Brings to mind another in that vein, the great Bruce Springsteen. This song has always been one of my fav Springsteen tunes, it's a sad story but very, very powerful the way he sings it. You can see why people hailed him as the "New Bob Dylan" when this came out circa 1972. I think you'll like it! "For You" Bruce Springsteen Princess cards she sends me with her regards barroom eyes shine vacancy, to see her you gotta look hard Wounded deep in battle, I stand stuffed like some soldier undaunted To her Cheshire smile. I'll stand on file, she's all I ever wanted. But you let your blue walls get in the way of these facts honey, get your carpetbaggers off my back you wouldn't even give me time to cover my tracks. You said, "Here's your mirror and your ball and jacks". But they're not what I came for, and I'm sure you see that too I came for you, for you, I came for you, but you did not need my urgency I came for you, for you, I came for you, but your life was one long emergency and your cloud line urges me, and my electric surges free Crawl into my ambulance, your pulse is getting weak reveal yourself all now to me girl while you've got the strength to speak Cause they're waiting for you at Bellevue with their oxygen masks But I could give it all to you now if only you could ask. And don't call for your surgeon even he says it's too late It's not your lungs this time, it's your heart that holds your fate Don't give me money, honey, I don't want it back you and your pony face and your union jack well take your local joker and teach him how to act I swear I was never that way even when I really cracked Didn't you think I knew that you were born with the power of a locomotive able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? And your Chelsea suicide with no apparent motive you could laugh and cry in a single sound. And your strength is devastating in the face of all these odds Remember how I kept you waiting when it was my turn to be the god? You were not quite half so proud when I found you broken on the beach Remember how I poured salt on your tongue and hung just out of reach And the band they played the homecoming theme as I caressed your cheek That ragged, jagged melody she still clings to me like a leech. But that medal you wore on your chest always got in the way like a little girl with a trophy so soft to buy her way We were both hitchhikers but you had your ear tuned to the roar of some metal-tempered engine on an alien, distant shore So you, left to find a better reason than the one we were living for and it's not that nursery mouth I came back for It's not the way you're stretched out on the floor cause I've broken all your windows and I've rammed through all your doors And who am I to ask you to lick my sores? And you should know that's true... I came for you, for you, I came for you, but you did not need my urgency I came for you, for you, I came for you, but your life was one long emergency and your cloud line urges me, and my electric surges free Copyright © Bruce Springsteen (ASCAP) |

Here's another sad tale, by one of my all-time favorite artists, Peter Gabriel. Many of his songs are very deep, emotional stories that are so full of imagery that each song is like a mini-movie. Even though I like happy, upbeat songs most of the time, the ones that stand out always seem to be songs that stir the emotions (my best friend thinks my music taste is MOR, but I think she'll change her mind eventually!
)"Here Comes The Flood" Peter Gabriel When the night shows The signals grow on radios All the strange things They come and go as early warnings Stranded starfish have no place to hide Still waiting for the swollen Easter tide There's no point in direction we cannot even choose a side I took the old track The hollow shoulder, across the waters On the tall cliffs They were getting older, sons and daughters The jaded underworld was riding high Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky And as the nails sunk in the cloud, the rain was warm And soaked the crowd Lord, here comes the flood We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent In any still alive It'll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, you’re running dry When the flood calls You have no home, you have no walls In the thunder crash You're a thousand minds, within a flash Don't be afraid to cry at what you see The actors gone, there's only you and me And if we break before the dawn, they'll use up what We used to be Lord here comes the flood We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent In any still alive It'll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry Lord here comes the flood We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent In any still alive It'll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry |

shebop: I've loved all your choices as well! I am such a classic rock fan, so bring them on!
3rd World Man: Your choices are wonderful- what a beastly friend is this...my goodness, MOR... send them some CDs and tell them to shove it. ![]() ![]() ![]() One of my favorite songs ever. DOWNLOAD THIS!!! DANCING BAREFOOT (Patti Smith) She is benediction she is addicted to thee she is the root connection she is connecting with he here I go and I don't know why I fell so ceaselessly could it be he's taking over me... I'm dancing barefoot heading for a spin some strange music draws me in makes me come on like some heroin/e she is sublimation she is the essence of thee she is concentrating on he, who is chosen by she here I go and I don't know why I spin so ceaselessly, could it be he's taking over me... [chorus] she is re-creation she, intoxicated by thee she has the slow sensation that he is levitating with she ... here I go and I don't know why, I spin so ceaselessly, 'til I lose my sense of gravity... [chorus] (oh god I fell for you ...) the plot of our life sweats in the dark like a face the mystery of childbirth, of childhood itself grave visitations what is it that calls to us? why must we pray screaming? why must not death be redefined? we shut our eyes we stretch out our arms and whirl on a pane of glass an afixiation a fix on anything the line of life the limb of a tree the hands of he and the promise that s/he is blessed among women. (oh god I fell for you ...)

I really like these lyrics by monty python
Sit on my face and tell me that you love me I'll sit on your face and tell you I love you too I love to hear you oralize When I'm between your thighs You blow me away. Sit on my face and let my lips embrace you I'll sit on your face and then I'll love you truly Life can be fine if we both sixty nine If we sit on our faces In all sorts of places And play till we're blown away. |

More Jackson.......
For A Dancer Jackson Browne Keep a fire burning in your eye Pay attention to the open sky You never know what will be coming down I don’t remember losing track of you You were always dancing in and out of view I must have thought you’d always be around Always keeping things real by playing the clown Now you’re nowhere to be found I don’t know what happens when people die Can’t seem to grasp it as hard as I try It’s like a song I can hear playing right in my ear That I can’t sing I can’t help listening And I can’t help feeling stupid standing ’round Crying as they ease you down ’cause I know that you’d rather we were dancing Dancing our sorrow away (right on dancing) No matter what fate chooses to play (there’s nothing you can do about it anyway) Just do the steps that you’ve been shown By everyone you’ve ever known Until the dance becomes your very own No matter how close to yours Another’s steps have grown In the end there is one dance you’ll do alone Keep a fire for the human race Let your prayers go drifting into space You never know what will be coming down Perhaps a better world is drawing near And just as easily it could all disappear Along with whatever meaning you might have found Don’t let the uncertainty turn you around (the world keeps turning around and around) Go on and make a joyful sound Into a dancer you have grown From a seed somebody else has thrown Go on ahead and throw some seeds of your own And somewhere between the time you arrive And the time you go May lie a reason you were alive But you’ll never know |

And on a lighter note -
Joan Osborne Right Hand Man Lemme use your toothbrush. Have you got a clean shirt? My panties in a wad at the bottom of my purse. I walk into the street, the air's so cool. I'm wired and I'm tired and I'm grinnin' like a fool. I've been on a floor lookin' for a chair. I've been on a chair lookin' for a couch. I've been on a couch lookin' for a bed, lookin' for a bed, lookin' for my, my, my right hand, my right hand man. My right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; Said my right hand, my right hand man. My right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; If he can't fix it, I don't know who can. The sensamilla salesman, the cops on the block, they know what I been doin'. They see the way I walk. I wonder what they'd say now. I wonder what they'd do. To feel somebody want them the way I'm wantin' you. I've been on a floor lookin' for a chair. I've been on a chair lookin' for a couch. I've been on a couch lookin' for a bed, lookin' for a bed, could you really be, my right hand, my right hand man. My right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; Said my right hand, my right hand man. My right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man; Use me up if you think you can. Oh, I've been on a floor lookin' for a chair. Oh, said, my right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man. Said, my right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man. My right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man. Said, my right hand, my right hand man; my right hand, my right hand man. If he can't fix it, gonna find a boy who can. |

shebop, that is one of the most beautiful songs by Jackson Browne. I love the lyrics. I love him. I recommend his version of Oh, My Love by John Lennon. It's stunning.
I love this song and it's theme: BETTER TOGETHER (Jack Johnson) There's no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard No song that I could sing But I can try for your heart, our dreams, and they are made out of real things like a shoebox of photographs with sepia-toned loving Love is the answer at least for most of the questions in my heart, like Why are we here? And where do we go? And how come it's so hard? It's not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together Mmmm, It's always better when we're together Yeah we'll look at the stars and we're together Well, it's always better when we're together Yeah it's always better when we're together And all of these moments just might find their way into my dreams tonight, But I know that they’ll be gone when the morning light sings and brings new things for tomorrow night you see that they’ll be gone too, too many things I have to do But if all of these dreams might find their way into my day to day scene I'd be under the impression i was somewhere in between With only two, Just me and you, Not so many things we got to do or places we got to be We'll sit beneath the mango tree, now, Yeah It's always better when we're together Mmmm, we're somewhere in between together Well, it's always better when we're together Yeah, it's always better when we're together mmmmmmm I believe in memories they look so, so pretty when I sleep Hey now, and when I wake up, you look so pretty sleeping next to me But there is not enough time, There is no, no song I could sing and there is no combination of words I could say but I will still tell you one thing We're Better together
