I don't even like it as part of the audience. The only good thing I can say about it is after it's over when she returns to the mic and finishes the song, I think that it is all the more exciting because of the break. I mean, mingling with the audience seems to be an acknowledgement of the power and thrall she has, so when she gets back and resumes the song, that power is evidenced with renewed force in her voice. Yes, but I also don't think the general public wanted to see full screen shots of Jess during landslide, either. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great but friends of mine thought it was too personal, like a Stevie family home video. They liked the idea of the shots in the background but like to think of their own meaning behind the song. It wasn't personal for them but only for Stevie (and us who love her oh so much). Also, I don't think anyone cared to see the long intro to Edge. They recorded a shorter version of the intro at Soundstage but didn't end up using it. I wish the Edge walk replaced the long intro. My non-obsessed fans also didn't like seeing so much Waddy. They kept saying "who the hell is he and why aren't they showing Stevie?"

I respect your opinion but wanted to comment as well. I loved the pictures of Jess and Barbara and Chris and Stevie. Because of the TV cameras I got to see more pictures of them than ever before. Very touching to me, very tender. The first time she did this on the 2006 Tour I balled my eyes out watching this video as she sang into the Mansfield evening.

I totally agree with you about the long intro to Edge of17-it's boring. I kept thinking it was Waddy's concert with Stevie as guest at some points as well.

it just lapses 'Rhiannon' into parody-land, i can't stand it. Many people and Stevie herself seem to love this rendering of Rhiannon, since 'The Dance' recording of 1997.
For me, the last really good 'Rhiannon' was the 'Street Angel' tour. I'm glad some of you thought this was a 'great' Rhiannon on Soundstage and won't try to change your mind.
So, enjoy this performance of it and hold on to your loving it as is, but aside from the "Stay"- i feel like i do for 5 good reasons: (because, because, because, because, because).

The ending minute and a half of the song cries for the committed use of her upper register, which she still has, but doesn't even come close to using in a satisfying way-
- No, don't shread the vocal chords as from '75 thru '82 or so, but 'all the same, all the same, all the same' sung in the flat monatone - oh why bother.
She could revisit the original 1975 recording, returning Rhiannon to being taken by the wind-- and finesse a tour-de-force replication of the trippy but vocally even LP or 45 version that wasn't so demanding on her in the first place.
This may be vulgar (you think?) but this 'Rhiannon' is like what you know is a really huge, gorgeous, incredible c*** that's been limp and unable to get hard for 14 years!

I thought Rhiannon was amazing. I am not a big fan of the "don't go....stay" but the rest of this song/performance is awesome. Those of you that were there to see it are a lucky bunch to see this side of Stevie in a live setting. It just doesn't happen any more during a regular tour. I think her vocals on Edge were "eh" until the end when she just pulls it out- (I love that little "oh yeah" at 10:49). I feel a bit teary while watching these- I'm having sympathy pregnancy hormones, I think.

I've gotta agree with you. Rhiannon, for me, has been a major snoozer since "The Dance" tour. I haven't seen the Soundstage performance so I can't comment on that. The thing that bothers me most about present day Rhiannon (aside from the flat vocals) is the arrangement. Change it up!!!!! Why not go back to the old days? After the second chorus, Waddy does a long solo while Stevie drifts off to stage right and hangs out there until the music slows down. Then she slowly floats back to the mic (maybe even do a twirl or two), all the while making grand drama with the bat sleeves to finish the song. Can anyone else picture this?? I have been for quite some time. I think this one little change would add some major new life to this song. The last time she did Rhiannon this way was in 1990 on the BTM tour.

Well, viv, Waddy is close friends with Stevie and fairly famous in the rock music world. Many people attack him for not being a "beauty." I think you understand the unfairness of that. Perhaps Stevie sees him differently than the people sitting on the couch. I think Stevie wants him to have a bit of a starring role on her videos. He may not be "pretty" enough to be in Fleetwood Mac, yet I believe he has done quite a bit to give Stevie's solo career some notice. (His style of playing has been called "dirty," and people ask him to play on their albums to give them a certain "edge," if you will.) He's made an appearance on most of her solo albums and tours. On Edge of Seventeen in particular, Stevie & Waddy do have co-starring roles, I think. If you've been to a few early shows or watched Red Rocks or Stevie Nicks In Concert, Waddy was sort of forced to entertain the audience while Stevie was backstage changing her clothes or doing whatever she was doing back there. (sure, they could have edited THAT out too, but that's really what was happening) Besides, Waddy wrote the string arrangements for the Melbourne Orchestra that appears on Crystal Visions and the arrangements now appear on this Soundstage production-which we are getting to see performed for the first time. I believe it is the combination of Stevie & Waddy that makes Edge of Seventeen the power song that it is. I think he deserves the screen time.

I agree - I like Waddy & I liked the pictures of her family, I'm just commenting on how the "general public" might view the broadcast. I'm only basing this on the unprofessional "focus group" of a bunch of non-obsessed fans that watched it with me.

Well, I think this is Stevie's best recorded performance ever, no questions asked. As soon as I saw the introduction to Rhiannon, I knew this was going to be something exceptional. Those sideways glances and the look in Stevie's eyes when the recorded portion of her and the little girl at piano was being played, just reminded me of how captivating she can be with the simplest moves. WOAH! Then when she walked out on stage in that tophat and her Rhiannon outfit I was completely mesmerized. It actually choked me up a little bit, seriously. It was like taking a trip down memory lane. She was beautiful, sexy, and enchanting. Her vocal was very good throughout the song. There is so much magic to that Rhainnon performance. Loved it.

Vanessa Carlton was very good too. The harmonies on "The One" were extraodinary.

I thought the strings on GDW were very creepy and effective. I really love that rendition of the song.

Landslide made me bawl like a baby. What's personal to Stevie is also personal to a lot of us. The moments we've shared with our parents over the years is precious to a lot of us. Those special one on one times with either Mom or Dad and the family times are some of the best of our lives. I wanted to get up on that stage and give her a big hug after she gave her speech about Jess and the "Landslide" story. But it wasn't just about that, it also chronicled Stevie's life and career and made it very apparent that her family was always a big part of it. "Landslide" was the absolute most sentimental part of Soundstage.

I really loved everything about the Soundstage performance. Stevie, Waddy, the Band, Vanessa, The Girls, the stage, and the orchestral parts. They all deserve a standing ovation for this. Absolutley wonderful! And thanks Joe Thomas!!!

Arlene, I think we fans will be enjoying this one for a long time. The people in that room, that night, were some very lucky people. To think of what was going through their heads at the time and the emotions running through their bodies. Truly very lucky people. I guess all that's left to see is "Beauty and the Beast" and "Dreams". I'm sure BATB will be awesome. Not so sure about "Dreams" though.

I also think Soundstage is Stevie's best recorded performance ever. Stevie looks beautiful--elegant, actually. I remember watching Storytellers and thinking something was missing, despite the beautiful set and candleabras there. Part of that something in my opinion was Waddy. And this time we really did get "Sara," not just a tease of Stevie at the piano. They never did release Storytellers on DVD so we could buy it. I think the inclusion of Stevie's family demonstrates that this performance really was made as a keepsake for us. Stevie's singing of "Landslide" was strong on it's own. SO WHAT if a few people had to suffer through some old family slides? They'll get over it without any permanent scarring. We may never get another solo live solo DVD again, and I'm happy it was personalized. Those 'couch people' probably won't buy it anyhow, and it has nothing to do with a few slides being shown during "Landslide."

And while there were things missing from the performance (like Mark's official debut on television!), I think we still have stuff to look forward to on the DVD. Stevie got a rocking type performance with this outing and maybe that's why "Beauty & The Beast" was omitted. I like the song and it's performance well enough, but it sometimes comes off as a bit affected. (right up there with "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You," another song that I like, but I can see why it wasn't used on this project)

Did they use that old movie footage during the Soundstage shoot, Mark (for Beauty & The Beast)? Between that and Stevie dancing around with an imaginary partner-- well, I just think that stuff should be saved for the more exclusive fan. I don't see the 'couch people' going for "Beauty & The Beast" because of numerous distractions.
