This Week in History:
Van Halen released “Dance The Night Away” in 1979 Rock Factoid: The song was inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” Rock Factoid #2: David Lee Roth originally wanted to call the song "Dance Lolita Dance", but Eddie Van Halen convinced him "Dance the Night Away" was more suitable. |

It's hard to believe that Fleetwood Mac in any way influenced Van Halen. Any more information on this? Was it something a member of Van Halen once claimed? There's no musical similarity, so the influence was either more abstract ("Hearing one anthem energized us to want to write another") or perhaps pertained to something more personal ("My girlfriend & I broke up & GYOW was on the radio, & I wanted us to get back together so I wrote another song").

No, I saw that here: http://www.wcfr1480.com/modules.php?...ticle&sid=1431
I'd never heard that GYOW was the derivation before and would like to know the background myself. Michele |
