She was born in rural Mississippi to a poor unwed teenaged mother, and later raised in a Milwaukee ghetto. She then was raped at the age of nine, and at fourteen, gave birth to a son who died in infancy. She was then sent to to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee. So, clearly she has the perspective you wondered about.

I disagree. Having been involved with the running of a few large charities in my day, a big, public donation from someone with the watts she shines will increase donations by several fold. So, her publicity also is a donation and a welcome one.

Does she aggravate me? I really have no opinion of her in that regard - though ghetto Oprah kind of gets on my nerves I am not into her show and do not really follow her life as a celebrity. I do think, however, she is a remarkable ansd generous human being who is a true success story and I would think this despite my personal opinion of her.
