New Christine McVie solo CD

I just checked out a web site called The CD Front, which usually has pretty good information about upcoming CD's. They have just listed a new Christine McVie solo CD. No title yet, but Chris is listed alongwith Ken Caillat as co-producers. It has a tentative release time of late spring, early summer 2003. It sounds like it will be released soon after the Buckingham/Nicks/Fleetwood Mac album. The album is also listed under the Warners label, so she must still be under contract with Warner/Reprise. What great news, this makes my day!

I think seeing as it's been personally confirmed to Neil by Ken Caillat himself we can safely assume that this project IS happening.

The only thing which we should not have our heart set on is the rumoured release date of "summer 2003"...

i don't see this as great news... i see this as "**** you fleetwood mac i'm going to do my own thing even though i'm lying to you and telling you i want to be retired" sh!t what the helll is that? "oh no i'm done.... i'm done with this whole rock and roll thing" and she disses her band which her name is a part of and then goes ang does a solo album.... dude... that sucks of her.... a slap in the face to her band members if you ask me

The "rock and roll thing" that Christine no longer wants to be a part of, is the excessive touring, and the constant promotion, etc., etc.
It's not about her no longer wanting to write or record.
Back when 'Time' was released, and she had quit touring the first time, she was talking about wanting to record another solo album in the future... so it seems she is just finally seeing that desire through to fruition.

I don't think it's a "screw you," kinda thing. What would be her motivation for that? After all this time, and all these years, why would she *now* want to thumb her nose at the band she spent the majority of her life with?
She certainly doesn't have anything to prove to them.

In my opinion, it's simply a matter of an artist still wanting to create, but not wanting to keep the hectic pace that she has in the past (when The Mac is in full album-promotion mode).
And I think we *all* know... or should realize, at least... that Fleetwood Mac is not going to give up a third of yet another album to Christine, and then go on tour without her.

I know Fleetwood Mac has always been surrounded by drama... but I really think folks who are looking for sinister motives in this particular scenario, are barking up the wrong tree.

No offense is meant by that, it's just my very humble opinion.

Christine has every right to do whatever she wants. Just because she releases a solo album it doesn't mean she's dissing her old band. She doesn't like touring anymore. If she recorded with Fm she would've felt pressured into touring. She's pushing 60. She's had one solo album in the last (near) 20 years. She wants to spread her wings a little and not go back to the same situation she had been in with FM and i think she has every right. She even said during the Dance interviews that she was a bit skeptical about the reunion cause she felt like it may have been a situation like they were just going out and doing the "same old thing....same old songs etc..." but after some convincing and a proposal of some new material she agreed.

I don't think it was a situation where she said "screw you, i'm doing my own record..." but even if it was, what's the obligation to stay in FM? I've been listening to pre 1975 FM and i tell you i think it was some of her best material. I don't think there's one song i skip over of hers. She has more than proven herself so bring on the solo album!

I agree somewhat. If you read any interview with the band or its members, they site the reason for Chris leaving as "not wanting to be part of the rock and roll lifestyle, wanting to quit totally, etc." This isn't retiring or leaving the rock and roll lifestyle or quiting totally. This is living it, if you are putting out a new solo album. I MAINLY think that the timing is poor on her part. She should have waited. She shouldn't be saying she is releasing a solo album right here before The Mac is releasing a new album. I think that is really poor judgement or meanness or something of that nature. I respected her wishes until this. Now, I'm very dissappointed in her. What is she thinking? I don't understand.

Christine has been talking about a solo record for years. She also has said that she did not like to be the "center" of attention in a band. (hense won't tour to promote her next solo effort) As far as timing, it couldnt be better. Chris should release this album insync with the MAC's. Makes total sense to me. Hopefully Chis will put 15-18 tracks on her new cd and we can have a hole **** load of new material from the fab 5.

I don't see CM's album as "competing against" the Mac album or anything like that. If she was "competing against them", then she would tour to promote it which we know she won't so that being the case, she MUST KNOW her album won't sell as many as theirs will (as they are going to tour to promote theirs). As she has always spoke favorable on the RECORDING side of "the lifestyle" I think she just wants to put out some music for us and just wants to leave it at that regardless of how it sells/looks, simple as that.

What I gather from the FM member interviews is that when they say "CM wants to leave the rock and roll lifestyle" etc. is that this is just their fluffy way of saying that "she doen't want to tour anymore". There have even been some interviews they have just come out and said that directly in anyways. As her announcement (along with Stevie) in 1990 was that they "would leave the band BUT STILL RECORD WITH THEM" was an early indication of how she felt about touring (even then, it's being kind saying that was an "early" indication as it's been clear to me that she has never really been happy with the touring side of the "R & R lifestyle". I get the feeling many of the newer FM fans feel as though "she shoud just do one more tour (etc.)" but unfortunately, (it seems to me anyways that...) she HAS been doing "just one more tour" for the better part of 30+ years.

The only thing I think FM "won't like about it" is that (it sounds like from the few details we have heard regarding her album) Christine was able to put together her album in a very short space of time next to how long it has taken FM to put together theirs (which we won't go in to) so I find that kinda funny and I hope it will show (NOT the Mac but...) the recording industry in general that it doesn't HAVE to take YEARS to put together what will (most likely) be a "good" album (as it seems the INDUSTRY thinks it does have to take a long time to put out a "good" album) and at the end of the day, it's more released material for us so I'll be happy. JMHO as well though.
