did i mention that people in the UK don't make twice what we do? i only harp on this because it's kind of the crux of the argument.

actually it ISNT. what I said was: the Pound is worth twice as much as the dollar. of course, if you believe Mikeschmike, (and why wouldnt you, he's so well informed) the exchange rate is apparently something different than what we are discussing here.

but: dont let that stop any of you: please, continue to poke fun as you always do.

according to you it is - you've been saying that b/c of the exchange rate, they make twice as much as we do. but that isn't so.

no, i NEVER said that. What I said was: their MONEY IS TWICE AS VALUABLE.

that has nothing to do with what anyone MAKES. PAY ATTENTION.

so if their money is twice as valuable, how does that help the person at the gas pump who is paying $7.20??

it doesnt. what Im saying is, if they pay $7.20, and I in CA pay $3.50 or more, we are basically comparable. thats all. that doesnt make it right by any means. I think it stinks....

If that's really what you think after all this discussion, then there's nothing more to be said... you'll never understand it.

The other point that was well made is that here it's our government who fleece us, and over there in the US it's the oil companies.

no, it's not comparable. they don't make $2 for every $1 we make. that would mean that their wages would have to be exactly the same in pounds as ours are in dollars, and they're not.

yes, it's not right. it DOES stink. but I'm getting confused on why you think it's comparable.

i am literally at a loss. their pounds are worth more but they make fewer pounds than we make in dollars.

This wins the prize for the most ludicrous, warped, and thoroughly inaccurate statement I've ever seen on the internet

Okay, I want the last 15 minutes I spent reading this thread back.

Mary, seriously, you've gone off the deep end here babe. It all comes down to simple math. If you calculate all the different currencies back to one single currency and then see how much gas people can buy based on their yearly income it's NOT hard to reach the conclusion that people in the UK can buy a lot LESS. I don't get what's so hard to understand about that.

(Oh, and many people have already researched the differences between median household incomes and really, Europe averages below the United States.)

Vanessa 'pays way too freakin' much for gas also' G.
