i think that's the basis of it, yeah. so really, you could do it cheaply. but if you buy their special SBD frozen dinners & ****, then it gets expensive.

i've got cheap & healthy eating down to a fine art. it's all about nuts, legumes, chicken, tuna, and veggies. oh, and peanut butter. and apples.

speaking of apples, i broke my apple slicer in an apple yesterday. now i'm a little scared of the other 3 apples i bought at the same time.

I guess I just can't imagine feeling satisfied eating those things. I only "kind of" like chicken -- once a week is plenty for me. If even that often. And, like I said, I don't eat seafood.
So I don't think I could possibly eat enough vegetables and nuts (and twigs and berries) to not be left hungry.

I'd starve.

Can't you eat lean ground beef, or another lean red meat? Like, if your dinner was a nice venison steak, a great action packed salad? Or a hamburger made with the leanest, grass fed ground beef, lettuce and tomato and everything on it...with a salad? (I like salad). I also make great, tasty, healthful burritos with fake meat or lean ground beef. Lots of people like ground turkey... put some lettuce, tomato, salsa, onions on that...mmmm....soup is good, too, you like soup? Also if you add a tasty fruity dessert, it seems like you would be full.
I've known a lot of people like you, they don't realize the delicious possibilities because they kind of already have a mindset about it, and/or they haven't really tried it. I spot them because they tend to use the phrase "twigs and berries", which is a scoffish term for things that are good for you and can be very delicious. I actually don't know anyone who eats "twigs", and I like berries a lot.
I know you did South Beach, though.

Carrie, don't be trying to call that healthy on $20/a week the Carrie diet... Poser.

I do what I can, as far as eating healthy -- though certainly not as much as I could. Obviously.

I guess the old saying is true, you have to want to do something. Honest to God, Amber, I admit I am exceedingly stubborn when it comes to this stuff. I'm usually a pretty level-headed, rational person -- but when it comes to eating right and exercising, my mind screams "PUNISHMENT!!!"

I look at all the people who say, "ohh, I'd love to have a Big Mac -- but I can't because I'm watching what I eat," or "I'm so hungry for bread right now, but it's not allowed on my diet," and I think "no freakin' way -- I'm eating what I want and when I want it."
Which I know is not really the right attitude.

Anyway, like I said, I know that it's my fault that I've gained weight. I also know what I need to do to lose it. I'm just not in the mindframe right now to want to.

And I still think McDonald's doesn't need to be banned.

That's what I think almost all the time, too, and I kind of think in part it is the right attitude. The thing is wanting to eat different things. I don't eat things that are good for me that I don't like. Except, of course, for the unrefined Coconut Oil...
I mean, think about strawberries. Strawberries are SO GOOD, plus they're really good for you. Who wouldn't want to eat them? There is tons of food like that.
I'm lucky in that I like to exercise, and that I have to in order to get places ( ) but I still have to push myself to do it many times. And I eat like a poor white trash pig many times, as well. Last weekend most of my dietary intake was from the cheese and cracker and cookie groups. But I know that I also like to eat healthy food, so, you know, whatever.

And there is still overwhelming evidence that the entire natural world and humans would be way, way better off without McDonalds.

I honestly believe that a person cannot lose weight eating processed food, which is exactly what any type of frozen dinner is.

Well, they can lose weight if the frozen selcetions reduce the caloric intake. In other words, if you eat three 300 calorie Lean Cuisines every day for a month, you will lose weight. The deal breaker there is that few people can sustain such a rigid plan and when they go back to real food, they likely will go way over the 1,000 or so calories a day and their body will horde the fat, etc.

No, not totally. They're a part of it though.

Plus, I don't eat fish -- or seafood of any kind for that matter -- so that's automatically scratched off the list of choices for me.

I've got the book. If you've got a personal chef, it'll work out great. Otherwise, who the hell has time to cook like that?
