Lightbulb New Albums

what new albums are you guys looking forward to? there are so many great musicians releasing music over the next couple of months; here are the ones i'm really looking forward to:

patty griffin - children running through (2/6)
lucinda williams - west (2/13)
mary chapin carpenter - the calling (3/6)
stevie (of course) - crystal visions (3/27)
babs - live in concert (4/10)

cyndi lauper also has an album in the works, but it hasn't been officially announced yet. it's rumored to come out in march. and although i'm new to her stuff, i'll also probably buy tori's new album, which is slated for april, i think?

you guys always educate me on such great music - i'd really like to know what everyone else is looking forward to!

Tori Amos - Still Untitled (April-ish)
Rufus Wainwright - Release the Stars (May-ish)

I only follow artists who have trouble deciding on release dates.

I usually only discover albums until after they're out for 3 or 4 years. Unless they're by one of the less than half a dozen of artists that I actively try to keep up with.

This year already produced one of my favorites -- the new SHINS release WINCING THE NIGHT AWAY is just incredible. Such an optimistic CD!

The Lucinda Williams CD has a big buzz behind it. I will certainly be getting that. I think she might even be playing at the SXXW convention next month.

Is RILO KILEY recording? I had no idea! I CANT WAIT!!

WTNA is simply great.

have you heard anything off LW's album? paste magazine included a track on their sampler disc this month and i adore it. i love the less stripped-down approach she has with this album.

Cyndi, but I guess that's about it. I don't know. Judas Priest & Feist are putting out new albums, but I know zilch about release dates.

No set date yet other than a vague 'Spring 2007.' They've been working on it for a while now, and there's been a write-up in a magazine about it:
Quote:
RILO KILEY
EXPECT IT: Early spring on Warner Bros.

Although Blake Sennett and Jenny Lewis began writing Rilo Kiley’s new record while touring their respective side projects, Sennett reports that the band assembled long enough to record 20 new songs, a dozen of which will ultimately comprise their fourth album. “The lyrics are a little more bawdy and, sometimes, uncomfortable,” says Sennett. “And if they make it to the record, we’ve got a few sweet dance songs for people to shake it to.”
Here's another article about it: http://www.nme.com/news/rilo-kiley/24529
It's sort of old (last October), but it tells you two songs that've been recorded for it (I think I have both if you want them -- Pull Me In Tighter & Acid Tongue = <3).

Anyway, I'm stoked. Rilo > everything else, tbh.

I absolutely can't wait for Lucinda's West album. I've heard pretty much every track already via her concerts over the years and I know it's going to be another gem from an American treasure.

well, thanks to carrie (who told me about it)... the new patty griffin.

and i actually was going to mention my latest obsession - but you guys are way ahead of me, of course! the shins. omg - what a perfect album. favourite song of the moment: turn on me. LOVE anita robinson's voice (anyone catch her performing with them on letterman and snl?)

not sure what else is on the horizon... i subscribe to four podcasts that give me previews of great indie and alternative music. i love discovering new acts.

OH! another fave right now: band of horses, and their song "the funeral."
