I think he probably perceived her giving him the signed copy of the album as a bit snarky. Like "look at me, I'm a big solo star, look what I did without YOUR help..." Whether she meant it that way or not.

Let's ask John if Stevie gave HIM a signed copy of Bella Donna & if he listened to it or not.
