I grew up in Joliet & for my first eight years I lived about a half a mile from the prison. I passed it everyday.

I would take the metra from Lasalle station and it will let you off at Union Station in downtown Joliet. The station is at the corner of Jefferson and I think Scott St. If you continued east on Jefferson it turns left into Collins St.
The prison is on Collins St. maybe 3 or 4 miles down.

Sorry I don't know specific bus routes, but you should be able to catch one from the station.

I have never seen the show, but I am obsessed with Wentworth Miller.

Arrow Sean...

Thank you so much for the information!!

You should catch Prison Break. Wentworth is wonderful and so is my new crush, Robert Knepper.

Temporarily de-lurking here. Definitely take the train. The Pace busses are notoriously bad. Also note that the train ride from Chicago to Joliet is an hour and a half, so you are looking at 3 hours of your day for getting there and back. I would make an early start. Are you sure you can get a tour of the place? Or do you just want to see it?
Good Luck!
Erin

Default Thank you!

I looked at the bus schedule and it was not appealing. LOL

I just wanna see it, not tour it. Take some pictures and go back to Chicago. I plan on getting up and leaving Chicago around 7AM and getting back around noon so I can eat lunch, go to the Hancock Tower and maybe take a trolley or bus tour of the city. Need to find out about those too. I mostly wanna see Wrigley Field and Buckingham (hee!!) Fountain.

I know nothing about trolleys or bus tours, but if you go check out the fountain, walk a little north to Millennium Park. The Crown Fountain is really neat, and the Pritzker Pavilion is BEAUTIFUL. From there, you can just walk west over to State Street and hop on the disgusting Red Line. Take it north and get off at Addison and you're at Wrigley Field.
