Registered nurse. I worked for 5 years with profoundly developmentally disabled patients, then 4 year in psych - with teenage girls.

For the last 3 years, I've been working for NY state at a college health center. I love my job. It doesn't pay as well as a hospital would, but I hate hospitals.

I'm a teacher. I taught fourth grade all subjects for eight years, and I have taught science lab for second through eighth grades for the past two years. We started school on Thursday last week, and we had students starting last Friday. It seems like we start back earlier and earlier. We are now just a week and a half off of year around schooling, but of course, our central office isn't talking about this!

I work at a nursing home right now. I hope to be a teacher some day.

I am a Tax Attorney. I joke I may be the most hated person in the world an accountant and an attorney.

I used to work for a large coporate firm and now I work for myself and consult and write on these topics.

Basically that means I work less and make more.

Well, currently I work at Arby's. Not too glamorous that's for sure, but it beats not working at all.

Yep, any money is better than none.

I work at home doing data entry. Lost my job back in May, but got picked up by another company doing the same thing. Unfortunately, we don't have any work right now...the first 2 weeks of August are going to be slow, they said. Hope it picks up really soon. I need cash for this fall....it's gonna be NUTS in terms of airfare, tickets, hotels, etc. It's a little overwhelming to think about. I wish I could travel around with other Ledgies or something.

You, sir, are a very wise man. That's why I became a nurse. No offense to doctors (hi Brad!) because without them & their knowledge I couldn't do my job. BUT - too many of them forget that without nurses, they couldn't do their jobs either. And too many focus on treating the ailment instead of treating the patient. The bond I've formed with patients is amazing.

my aunt is a nurse and she says the same thing. it's a very rewarding job, even if it's terribly sad sometimes too. I can remember going to lunch with several of her elderly patients (she's a home-health nursing supervisor) that she had formed close bonds with...they were always so grateful and nice and welcoming.

My job is kind of hard to describe, but basically I advocate on AIDS funding and legislative issues and I organize people to be their own advocates. I'm starting to broaden, though, and advocate on health programs like Medicaid that help people beyond those living with HIV/AIDS.

This has definately started intriguing me lately. Not that it hasn't before, but recently we have gotten a few patients who do this very same thing (or at least I think they do if I'm getting it correctly.) It's a non profit org. that gives free tests, meds, counseling and so on. I was talking to one of the employees about her job and she loves it. She was able to explain some things to me that I didn't quite understand and I'm definately wanting to learn more.

You mean you have patients who are engaged in advocacy? That's great. If you want to PM me, I'd love to talk more about it.

Ever since I was very young, I've said the job I would really really not want is to be a nurse. Just because it seems incredibly difficult. So, basically, hats off to nurses, who do a job I couldn't imagine doing in a million years. To...hard...caring...for....others....*gasp*.

Yeah. I'm a pretty caring bitch. Although, it's much easier to care for relatively healthy young adults than sick older people.
