Yay! C'mon, Petty! One more!
It's weird that though everyone likes Zep so much, they've never really touched me. I mean, they rock and all, but my good response to them is pretty shallowly felt.

Yeah, I feel the same way about Zep. Meh. I even prefer Dolly Parton's version of Stairway to Heaven to the original.

and Rachel: wrong! go listen to zombie zoo.

I vote for Joni, not that it matters because Petty & Led Zep are way ahead

Your horrible taste never ceases to amaze. I mean - if you want to like Joni, that's fine. Whatever. But liking her more than Petty? That's just wrong.

Oh, please. I like Tom Petty a lot, I really do. But his songwriting just isn't in the same league. And I have no clue how Led Zeppelin made it into the finals. But then, rock isn't really my music of choice...

I wasn't actually being serious. I was just picking on Michael, like I always do.

Also, some people consider Petty to be a superb songwriter. I would be one of those people.

Joni? Not so much.

I totally don't get how you (or anyone) can say that Joni isn't one of the greatest (if not the greatest) songwriters. Petty is a great songwriter, but he's second tier.

Her lyrics and her music in general just don't move me. I'm not one of those people who sits there and analyzes things, so don't ask me to explain. I just go with my gut reaction. In the case of Joni, either that means no reaction at all or a "gut" reaction of a different sort.

Oh, okay.

*sigh*

I think I'll go listen to Jaco Pastorius and leave everyone to cream themselves over Led Zeppelin. *shudder*

For the record:

I am not a Led Zep fan at all. They might be one of the most musically innovative bands in rock, but overall their music just leaves me cold.

"... and she grew up tall and she grew up right with them Indiana boys on them Indiana nights...."

It's gotta be Petty, baby!

Dude, that song kicks. They really do move me but so does Petty and he has such a vast catalogue. Plus I've seen him live. I had to go with him! I'm definitely a rocker at heart.
