Best bet is to uninstall itunes and download the latest version from the apple website. It won't delete your music files. this problem is a bit puzzling. Go into your itunes folder. Its usually in your My Music folder. You need to move the itunes library and itunes music library files to a safe destination, say My Documents. Then you have them backed up.

Then make sure those two files are not in the itunes folder after you have uninstalled the program.

Then when you reinstall the program itunes will ask you if you want it to search your computer for music, if you say yes it will scan everything and put it in itunes.

*** The only downside with this is when you plug your ipod in it will wipe it and update it with the new library list. If you don't want the hassle of waiting for your PC to put the updated library on your ipod (I've got 6000 songs on mine and it takes hours) leave the two library files in the itunes folder before you reinstall.

You got it?

Hang on, can you not just highlight My Computer when you select "Add folder to library" ?? that might do it

I was looking for something like that, but didn't spend too much time. Let me know if you find something, and I'll also look this weekend.
So...did you laugh at any of my songs?

I just updated my itunes. But I see what you're saying about the rest, the problem is, I guess, that I have quite a bit of music saved in places other than my itunes folder. I also understand about moving them to a safe place if I update.
But do you think I really have to update itunes? There isn't a new one, so should I do it just because...uh...somehow my files got erased and it could be itunes fault? Even though the new one will be exactly the same version?
Thanks.

I don't know whats going on here. Amber, what happens when you get the add "folder to library" window up? What do you get in the window? Can you print screen and send it/post it so I can see what you are seeing?

No, because I'm at work.
It opens a window with folders in it, but I can only choose one folder at a time, as far as I know.

Trackie - great, but how do you do it?

Well all I can think is that in that window you might be able to scroll up or down and find your C drive listed. By the side of the single folders listed. By the top one in the window. Is there a minus in a square box by it? It should be by the left of the folder icon in the window. If you have one and press it it should take you back to a bigger folder or your whole drive.

If you have no + or - in a box by the folder icons then you have a problem with itunes, probably in your registry. Try it and have a look when you get home. If not we'll look for another solution.

Oh yeah, that sounds plausible. I'll try that. Thanks a million.
