Hits daily predicts about 400k for first week sales - based on early reports from retailers. So they won't be starving that's for sure. This is down about half from first week sales of "Home", but this cd doesn't have a massive single to bolster it. So they'll do fine.

I just think the whole thing with what she said and the retaliation as a result, was just over the top and really quite bizarre actually.

It's only $8.99 at Circuit City - there were only 3 of 'em left on the shelf when I got mine last night. I blasted it on the home stereo, and just came back from lunch and am now listening to it at work...

Doesn't the beginning of Everybody Knows remind you of a TISL track? I can't recall which one at the moment, but it reminds me of something.

And Lullaby sounds very "Tusk-ish" to me.

BTW - I noticed in the liner notes - Lenny Castro is playing percussion. And Mark Seliger did the photography. He's best known around the Ledge for that wedding photo of John and Mick.

It's a beautiful album, really. The instrumentation and vocal harmonies are flawless!

Good performance, and it is a nicely crafted song. No chance in hell it is a hit song, and anyone can see that. They sent a very clear message by demanding this as a first single. They have plenty of money and can do exactly what they want. Good on 'em.

In fact, the lush, jangly opener, "The Long Way Around," is a dead ringer for "Rumours"-era Fleetwood; elsewhere, the Chicks expertly channel the Eagles, as on the celebrity culture manifesto "Everybody Knows."

I downloaded the album from Itunes yesterday morning at 6:00 a.m. sharp, and it took me forever to get to track 2, because "The Long Way Around" became my instant favorite. Not only do I dig the music, but I can really relate to the track - being one of the few who left my small town in Missouri. I couldn't stop listening to it, but finally moved on to the rest of this really good record. My favorite tracks are the first track, Easy Silence, Not Ready to Make Nice, Everybody Knows, Lullably, Silent House, Voice Inside My Head (my current favorite- wow) and Baby Hold On.

Great stuff from the Chicks. I can't wait until they roll into D.C. on August 4. Hopefully they will play 2 nights like they did last time they came to town.

The writer is right! The opening of The Long Way Around DOES sound like Fleetwood Mac... Sounds very similar to the opening of Go Your Own Way.

I've kind of been a nominal fan of the Dixie Chicks before this, buying only "Home' and then their double live album mostly just to support them in the wake of their shameful treatment by the country music establishment and boneheaded talentless cretins like Toby Keith.But I have to say I really enjoy "Taking the Long Way'' there aren't really any bad tracks "Voice Inside My Head' is on a whole different level though.If they continue moving in that direction I may just go from casual fan to fanatic.

but at least he has a heart to help raise $300,000 via a charity golf tournament this past Monday in Norman that went towards helping families with young children/infants who are battling cancer.

Sadly, their new album is turning into a "shelf-warmer" here, except for sales at Best Buy it isnt flying off the market here in the heart (I prefer to say 'fart' myself) of country music known as Oklahoma.

The predictions for their upcoming arena show at the Ford Center look promising ONLY to see how they will verbally respond to being in the hometown area of Toby Keith yet again (Last time they played OKC they did not have ANY between song banter and were booed somewhat by the near sell-out Pro-military crowd, Remember OKC is a military city...Not to mention the BS with the D.C. security forces with having fans removed from the show who wore t-shirts/carried banners that were in support of President Shrub from the audience, some as young as 12 years old.)

As for me, I dont like the Dixie "I am ashamed anyone is from Texas" Chicks nor Toby "Mullet-man Booner Gooner fan" Keith

sadly this might be true.. however i went to my local best buy today and only 2 copies were left! (and of course I got one).. and i live in NC!!!! so we shall see..

i loved how amy grant and vince gill said that they loved the chicks and that the new album will def. be played in their home, when they were asked last night on the red carpet of the country music awards.. when most others were being pricks.

OK, the album is very good. I think the thing that bugged me at first is that "Home" was sooooo country, and I fell in love with it, so it was a bit odd for me to hear a pop album from the Chicks. But I do like it a lot. And it SOOOO reminds me of Mac & The Eagles & Sheryl Corw & Petty & that whole vibe.

BTW - anyone catch the liner notes - besides Lenny Castro (who Livia already mentioned) they had help from Sheryl Crow (cowrote "Favorite Year"), Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell (cowrote "Lubbock or Leave It"), Bonnie Raitt, John Mayer, and...Keb Mo . And of course, Rick Rubin produced it.

They were on GMA this morning for an interview (I missed it) but they're supposed to be back tomorrow to perform.

I haven't bought the cd yet but have been listening to it on MSN.music, sounds good to me. I also loved "Home". The Mac, The Eagles, Crow & Petty, what else could you ask for in an album

I'm not a dixie chicks fan, but when I saw em on tv I enjoyed the lowkey quality of the presentation.

I'm not really a fan of anybody except Fleetwodo Mac.
