That would be the one. Oddly enough, it's just about a perfect melding of shlock form (you could grow weeds to that tempo, & get a load of that luscious interplay between zonked lead vocal & zonked lead guitar) & shlock content ("wake up, my sweet darling/there's something I've got to say to you tonight" or "love's a hard game to play/no matter what they say). That makes it pure shlock art.

Even a Mae West impersonator wouldn't do that one. But. Stevie. Did. The "managers" who told her she needed to record such a monstrosity--or else she'd "never have a career again"--couldn't possibly have believed it. So what, one wonders, was their motive? It had to have been nefarious. They actually *did* want to destroy her & any vestiges of her former wondrousness. The Devil himself couldn't have picked a more efficient method.

"Love's a Hard Game to Play" is Stevie's actual Fall From Grace.

Least favourite? And people are gonna hate me for this. Bella Donna. That's ridiculous, I know, but it's true. Some absolutely stellar tracks -- Edge of Seventeen, Outside the Rain, and SDMHA has grown on me -- but the rest is pretty uninteresting. I mean, it's nice, it's easy, but it has little of the fire that her other albums have. If that makes sense. And The Highwayman? Don't get me started on The Highwayman.

: ducks for cover :

Now a word in defense of Street Angel -- I love the cover. Understated sexiness indeed. Sure, there are some dreadful songs. Basically most of the second half. But in there are some real, underrated gems. Docklands? Why does everyone hate Docklands?
Unconditional Love ... I shudder to think.

And may I ask -- what is it with Desert Angel that people don't like? That song made me cry. It's so poignant and so painfully relevant. Not to mention it sounds terrific.

I don't hate DA! I like it a lot. It's not my favourite or anything, but it's not as terrible as people make it out to be.

I think the Street Angel cover is sexy, too... All wide-eyed and whatnot. Me likes.

For me, it's 'The Other Side Of The Mirror.' And it's not that I hate it... I'm just not fond of the antiseptic production.

Bob Dylan has released 40-something albums, and he's one of the most-covered songwriters on the planet, plus he tours constantly, so he's not in need of any cash. He's just Bob Dylan. There's no answer. Why is Bob Dylan in this Victoria's Secret commercial walking around some vaguely Italian landscape? Who knows, dude, he's Bob Dylan, he can do whatever he wants. The rules do not apply.

It's almost a cliche at this point to say Street Angel, so my choice is Rock A Little. This album is a complete mess for me. I like "If I Were You," No Spoken Word," and "Has Anyone...", and that's pretty much it. "The Nightmare" is aptly titled. This is among her worst songs ever. "Imperial Hotel?" No, thanks. "I Sing for the Things" has some nice moments lyrically, but, musically, it is banal. Vocally, she was at a low point on this record. I can't stand that helium voice on "Talk to Me." And that album cover.

When Rock A Little was released, it was shocking to hear her voice had changed so much! Now..we just roll with it..but then it was a little heartbreaking....

The funny thing is, it was that voice that caught my attention, and it's that voice that I miss.

Street Angel simply for the fact that it has the least amount of songs I adore. I only love 3 - Kick It, Street Angel, and Docklands (love the music, lyrics whatever). Blue Denim is pretty good but the others are completely uninspired, mediocre songs.
*Unconditional Love demo kicks ass!
Bella Donna is my second least favorite for the same reason, least amount of songs I love. BD only has 3 of my favorites, Bella Donna, How Still my Love, and Edge. It all comes down to what album has the most songs I like or dislike.

The music KICKS BUTT on Docklands & you are astute to notice it & admire it.
