Is it just me?

Well, with most "regular" (that is, non-private, non-corporate) gigs, artists book themselves. It's not a like a venue just calls up an artist and says, "Hey, will you play a show here?" The artist decides that they're going to tour, and then they book dates and venues based on what's available and what they want.

In a corporate gig, the power roles are reversed. The corporation says, "Hey, we'll pay you this much money, come do what we want," and the artist says, "Okay." It's just a question of how much control you have over your art and how you're "distributing" it.

I just don't have that snobbishness of where people play, or whatever.

You sure "snobbishness" is the right word for people who are somewhat put off by the idea of people paying hundreds of dollars to go to a private Stevie event?
