Something I've been wondering lately . . . . Can anyone hear ANYTHING at ALL coming from Stevie's tambourine during "Live in Boston" at any point what-so-ever? (Remember Taku is sometimes playing instruments that sound similar and it may be easy to confuse those). I remember on a talk show, I believe it was Letterman, Stevie had mentioned feeling embarrassed when she gave her tambo. to Clinton and it turned out to be "taped" so that it actually made no noise. When did she start doing this? And - WHY on EARTH would she ever do such a thing!??? If you listen to old vids/ etc. she's actually *VERY* good at it and in a way it's even her TRADEMARK!
When did she stop playing it and WHY??? Also, I've recently seen an old pic. of a triangle on her mike stand - did she ever play THAT "back in the day?" |

oh i never knew about the clinton thing!! HOW embarrassing!! I've noticed too that she doesn't seem to play it to the mic anymore, only when she walks off will she rattle it.. which is a shame as i also agree that she certainly seemed to understand rhythm...

I know what interview you're talking about and I was super confused to ehra her say that, too. She went straight from playing it to handing it to him, so I don't see how it was silenced.
Anyway, yes, you can hear Stevie's tambourine in LIB. The most distinct times that I can think of off the top of my head are during "Eyes of the World." You can hear her at the very beginning right before the "back and forth." She does three shakes. When they hold out the long "eye, ye, ye, ye....*clang*...eye, ye, ye *clang*...eye, ye, ye, ye *clang*....eye, ye, ye." Do you know the part I'm talking about? On the DVD, you see her hit the tambo with her arms over her head. You can hear it pretty distincly on the audio. |

with respect to the clinton thing, the tambourine had been deadened and it's my guess so it wouldn't interfere with the music and since it was such a huge event they didn't want to take any risks - she said she handed it to him so he wouldn't feel out of place, so he'd have something to do...similar to why she began playing it. she was well aware it was deadened...it's not uncommon...but forgot until after she had given it to him
she still plays the tambourine a lot...maybe not during every song like she used to so I'm not clear as to why there's an impression she has stopped I don't think she's ever played the "lunch is ready" (although there is a technical term for it I can't think of) bell, I would imagine it was just for effect Last edited by JazmenFlowers; 01-26-2006 at 11:28 AM.. |

I have a neat Tambourine story to share with you all. A friend of my mother's was a cleaning lady at the hotel Fleetwood Mac was staying at when they came to Minneapolis for the Tusk Tour. After the band checked out, my mother's friend was cleaning Stevie's room and discovered she had left one of her tambourines behind. SHe still has it. Now that's quite a collectable!

She told me when she dies I can have the tambourine. Course, shes been saying that for over 20 years, but it'll be worth the wait. |

I have noticed in the Boston DVD that you can't really hear her tambo very much...or any of the circulating current dvd's. I was, however, watching my tape of her 98 tampa show and she bangs that thing right into the mic!!! It was crazy!!!
