I will admit that Mariah is talented. Personally I haven't liked anything she's done since her first CD (God, I started to type "album"), but that doesn't mean I don't think she has talent- just not my style of music. She's just such a ridiculous and awful person- tacky personified.

The whole Metallica/Jethro Tull thing was insane- I think I gave up on the Grammy's then. I like to watch the beginning to see what everyone is wearing.

Why'd you stop? They're still called albums. People didn't stop calling them that when they switched to 33 1/3 LPs, or when cassette tapes were introduced. No need to drop the term because CDs are currently the dominant medium. And Mariah is, after all, nominated in the Album of the Year category.

Well, thank you for that. You're absolutely right. Album it is.

There are a few interesting/non-laughable races:

Best Rap Album features Common, Missy Elliott, Eminem, 50 Cent and Kanye West. Kanye will probably walk away with that one.

Best Alternative Music Album features Arcade Fire, Beck, Death Cab For Cutie, Franz Ferdinand and the White Stripes. I'm guessing Death Cab will take home that one (not sure why Arcade Fire are even in there, since Funeral was released in September 2004; and where the hell is Sufjan Stevens?).
I would have liked to have seen Rollingstones up for album of the year, or even Robert Plant

There's really only room for one old fart/prestige/pity nomination in a major category like Album of the Year. Robert Plant has been releasing fairly consistent solo albums to little fanfare for a while now, so he certainly was not on the radar. I would imagine the Stones may have been considered, though, since they're a wildly popular live act whose new album received a fair amount of hype along the lines of, "Man, they've released a lot of awful crap in the past ten-plus years, but this one is surprisingly decent!" Of course, Paul McCartney has the exact same story this year, plus he's been crappier for a longer period of time, so that's probably why he won the nomination in the end.

The Stones are nominated for Best Rock Album, though. They're up against Coldplay, Foo Fighters, U2 and Neil Young. I'd say they've got a fairly decent chance of winning that one, actually.

Robert Plant is also nominated in a couple of categories. He's up for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for "Shine It All Around," against songs by Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Rob Thomas and Neil Young. And he's up for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Tin Pan Valley," against songs by Audioslave, Nine Inch Nails, Queens Of The Stone Age and System Of A Down.

duh. we all know that they are opinion. I was simply pointing out the fact that not everyone agrees with you. For artists I like, I can't just overlook derogatory comments. period.

No worries - I never for one second assumed everyone did agree with me.
