Retractable roofs are cool, but only if you leave them OPEN most of the games. Plus, the Colts really need to replace their carpet to make it look more like real stuff, as the Rams have.
Sucks that the Super Bowl is in a Dome this year too. Oh well.
You should hear the fighting and bickering that's going on in this state over the new stadium and who's financing it. They're not going to replace their carpet if they have a new stadium coming.... I agree with you, though. I love to see a game in asshole deep of snow, or when it pouring down rain. Those are the best games.

I'll tell you a good football outdoor story. When I was in High school I went to a game my senioor year against our bitter rival, and after my school kicked a field goal in the first quater the downpour started and never let up. Near the End of the game my team was backed up to like our 5 yeard line with about 10 seconds left in the game and we were still ahead 3-0. We had to Punt, and rahter than risk a fumble and possible turnover, the punter got the ball and ran around till there was about 3 seconds left then ran out of the end zone as time expired. Final 3-2.

Yeah- they are fighting and bickering here too in SD as the Chargers want (and need) a new stadium. At this point the Chargers are willing to pay for it, they just want the city to donate the land for it. (the land that the current stadium is now on) The Chargers also want to build restaurants, condos and apartments on this land, all for the city's benefit of being able to tax on it. Some people in the city think that somehow they will be screwed though. Paul Tagliabue said that if the Chargers can get a new stadium they would be on a regular rotation for Super Bowls, which brings lots of $$ to the city. We will probably know next year sometime if the Chargers plan to move, because they will if they can't get a deal done here. That would be a shame.

Damn, if they're willing to foot the bill, I dont see what the problem is. We need more of that.

The Colts wouldn't even foot the bill. We are paying an extra 1% tax on restraunt meals, and now they just revealed Colts licence plates for $35; $20 goes to the BMV, $15 goes to the stadium.

Well now that we have a new mayor maybe things will change. The last mayor basically bankrupted the city and would never have been able to get the deal agreed to by the rest of the city council or public. My problem with a new stadium was that when they expanded the stadium to 70,000 seats the Chargers were happy. That wasn't that long ago. Also, the land the Chargers want the city to donate isn't cheap land. Prices in Mission Valley are as high as anywhere in the city. I think the city is still soured on all the court fights it took and the 2 year delay to get the Padres Petco Park built downtown. Last time I checked Bruce Henderson (the ex councilman who filed all the lawsuits) is still around and will probably do the same thing with a new Charger Stadium.

Fellow San Diegan- cool!

But, really, what else would they do with that expensive (well, over-priced) land anyway? Build MORE ant-farm-style condos and apartments? Or perhaps a SUPER WALMART? God, I hope not. That area is clogged with enough of that crap anyway, and you KNOW that's what they'd do if a stadium wasn't there.
Yeah, they expanded Qualcomm, but it wasn't enough. I was fortunate enough to take a behind-the-scenes tyour of Qualcomm where the press people are, and that place is in shambles -wires hanging everywhere out of the ceiling, pipes sticking out of the walls, not to mention what I've heard about flooding not only in the stands, but down in the locker rooms.
