Hmmm...guess you're right. It just seems to me that Chris would be the one seeing the cash flow when it came to song royalties, the majority of her songs with the Mac being more well known, used and played...

Did you read this somewhere ? I find that figure quite hard to believe. I base this on the fact that Dolly made about 2-3 million when Crackney destroyed "I Will Always Love You", and that monstrosity was number one for something like 10 weeks and sold over a million copies as a single alone. Not to mention the royalties from the soundtrack, which also sold an insane amount of copies. All tolled it seems that the Landslide cover moved a fraction of those numbers. Like, maybe a fifth of that much.

BTW, Christine isn't making bank off her songwriting roylaties anymore. She sold her publishing to Sony in the mid nineties for a paltry 4 or 5 million dollars. Not sure about the details of the deal, but the publisihing rights, she sold. Though she would still be getting performance royalties, which are different.

I think Stevie is alot more than moderatley wealthy. Publishing is where the real money is in the music industry and Stevie owns plenty of that in her songs outright on her own. Shes getting paid alot of royalties from radio play and some from record sales .She does have to share mechanical royaties with Mac members, others who have played on her solo records depending what kind of deal was worked out and publishing with anyone who has cowritten with her . Count in tour money, merchandising and investments, shes got plenty of money to be considered "rich"!

Songwriters get paid a different and much larger portion of money for the songs than a performer. They both get money when it is played somewhere, but only the songwriter gets paid when a song is covered. I am not sure how the structure works - there is an industry standard for performers and writers but extremely prominent people can renogotiate these percentages.

That means she gets paid for her playing on the songs, everytime you here it on the radio. I think she was foolish to sign those publishing rights away to Sony. Whenever those songs get used anywhere, like tv, movies, compilations, Sony gets paid because they own the song. Hopefully we won't hear Don't Stop on the next Cadillac commercial, Christine would be losing a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think mechanical royalties are as much as publishing. Anyone know?

LMAO Umm.... yeah LB got extra for the producing and arranging but anyway you slice it, publishing brings in the most money when it comes to the songs. Thats why Sir Paul is so pissed that Wacko Jacko bought The Beatles publishing. But the best part of that is, he borrowed against alot of it from Sony - so he owes out the but! So Sir Paul must be laughing his but off! Yeah in no way shape or form is she ever going to panhandle !
