My family doesn't like or dislike her, but they love her because she makes me happy. And my Mom & brother went to the WH, RAL, and Tango shows with me, and we had a great time. (Check out David's "Who's more stoned...?" thread from a week ago for more details.
)They were really scared for a few years when my fandom went supernova - obsessively collecting everything even remotely related to Stevie. I don't do that any more, thankfully. I decided the music was most important to me, and all the rest had to go. And now with the Internet, I can usually find just about any photo or interview I want to recollect - so why do I need an actual copy collecting dust and taking up space? And they *tried* to make fun of me for the obsessive collecting a few times, until I pointed out my Mom's several-thousand-plus romance book collection, or my brother's 10 boxes of Tazmanian Devil collectibles, or my Dad's abolutely massive set of tools (does anyone really need 47 flathead screwdrivers?). At least my interest was with a living, breathing, producing artist. |

My family pretty much thinks I'm crazy too. My sister claims to not like Stevie, but she's admitted to liking a few songs and has actually seen her in concert- I 've brought her to 2 Stevie shows and one Fleetwood Mac one. My parents had a couple Mac albums and Bella Donna, but were never hardcore fans...my dad said he saw them a few times back in the day though. My mom went to the Stevie/Don show with me this summer and LOVED it. She even bought a Stevie shirt there. It's so weird seeing her wearing it, haha. One of my aunts is both a FM and Stevie fan (although not as big a fan as me), and another aunt likes Fleetwood Mac, but when I asked her if she wanted to go see Stevie this summer she somehow didn't know she ever had a solo career!
Most of my friends think I'm crazy too, and often tease me about loving a goat. So I have to defend Stevie a lot too...especially when I saw her twice in one week this summer, and got up early to watch The Today Show...they all know that Stevie's the only thing that could get me up that early!

My family, friends, and co-workers tolerate my obsession. My co-workers even prod my patients into saying things about Stevie or Fm just to 'get my goat' and stand out in the hallway and listen to the whole set up. My husband says if it makes me happy, he's all for it! And the kids....well, they were named after Stevie, Rhiannon, and Christopher....so they know the obsession has run deep for a long time.

Let's see... my oldest brother convinced me to buy a computer back in 1997 so I could find Stevie Nicks memorabilia. He thinks it's cool to be a fan.
My mother likes Dreams, Silver Springs and Rhiannon but not the newer stuff because of the change in voice. Awhile back she was going thru stuff in the garage and found some very old cassette tapes, Wild Heart and the FM white album. She "gave" them to me for Christmas. That's her way of encouraging my fan activity. My stepmother sends me clippings, although she hasn't sent one in a long time. She encourages my being a fan in this way because she likes Stevie for the whole Earth Mother, mystical goddess thing and the fact that she's overcome adversity. The people at work have gotten over thinking I'm nuts and giving me a hard time about it. I've managed to drag most of them to other concerts with me over the years and we've always have a great time listening to wonderful music. ![]() My 9 year old granddaughter loves to wear lace, velvet and boots. She can pick a Stevie Nicks song out in a store very easily. Her favorite movie is Praticle Magic. She also loves to sing Silver Springs karaoke-style and has her Stevie song preferences. So she's into it too. It gives us something to bond over. My daughter went to Vegas with me and thought it was crazy when everyone cheered every time Stevie made a gesture. She's not so much into it, but has friends who are into Stevie, so she doesn't say much about my being a big fan. Laura |

Curious to know what the age demographic is here.
After reading through the "What Does Your Family Think" thread, I was really suprised how young some (most?; all?) of the Ledgie's are - and this would be a good, remarkable thing. Given the variety of music genre that's on the market these days, to me it's amazing how FM/Stevie et. al. have generated a younger demo. following. That to me demonstrates how truly enigmatic(?) Stevie is. Any thoughts/facts on the age groups here?

Parents owned Fleetwood Mac records. 'Nuff said. They were huge fans and I became a bigger one as a result.

My parents love Stevie and The Mac. Especially my dad. He bought me all Stevie/Mac CDs and took me to see Stevie on the Street Angel tour. My parents have seen Stevie/Mac on basically every tour they have been on. I always make sure to go to at least one show with them on each tour.

Well, I drive my sister (who lives with me for the time being) insane, or at least that is what she said to me. She likes the music, always liked it, and when I got home a couple of weeks ago, she was even watching the DR doc, which led to me answering all kinds of questions for the next hour. So she is interested. She tolerates me being obsessed, but only because she is familiar with the concept. She is obsessed with something herself, and together with my Mac/Stevie obsession, I have always been an XF freak. But when I put on The Dance dvd (or anything else really) for the gazillionth time, there is definitely some eye rolling action on her part.
Now, my dad is the one I stole the Rumours album (vinyl) from. So he definitely listened to the music. He kept going back and forth through the years about liking them (but he always had a thing for Stevie, in his words: She's a fox!) but he always says to me, if it has to be anyone you are obsessed with, Fleetwood Mac is a good choice. Then I have two dear friends, who are Stones fans, but they always said that Fleetwood Mac would be their second choice. So it's all good whenever they come over, we trade some bootlegs, watch some dvd's, listen to some tunes. So all in all, I get hardly any hardship from anyone, except for a few friends here and there who love to refer to them as stoned hippies whenever I mention them, so I just don't mention them around those friends. Then again, whenever they see something they think I don't have, or whenever there is something on TV about them, they do call me. ![]() |
