Chris is right, except she left off Milton and a few folks who I don't expect anyone not in lit to care about. lol

I am excited about some women authors who haven't been getting as much treatment. Tentatively, my dissertation is going to be about Anna Weamys and Lady Mary Wroth, and how they took the masculine genre of the epic and made it into a tool to express their own ideas about the political occurences of the time. And some other boring stuff about the gender relationships in their works, and how they presented political commentary through gender representations, blahblahblah.

Have you studied Sidney, too? I'm just mentioning him because I read him in a class in which I read the authors Chris mentioned. I remember being the only person in the class who liked him at all. It's been awhile though, so I don't remember what piece it was.

Sidney is not 17th century. However, his Arcadia is instrumental to my thesis because both women wrote "spin-offs" of the Arcadia, using that as the entryway into the epic genre.

Oh. Whoops! I was thinking my class was all 17th century but it was more of a survey class so it definitely wasn't just 17th.

Well, sometimes the 17th century folks like to claim him because he was only a few years behind. These century markers are largely arbitrary anyway. Who says the world of 1601 is so massively different than the world of 1599?

Question Centuries...

Nancy-
I admire you for such dedication. I can't even remember if this is the 20th century or what century we are in right now... If it's 17th century then in really happened in the 1600 year? right ? or am I wrong.
I get so confused

I don't think I worship any book....
although I sure do like the Complete Works of Edgar Allen Poe
but I don't think that is really about rhetoric and prose...
