And the 2006 Mission Estate Winery Concert headline artist is ... yet to be announced.

Although promoters Sports and Entertainment Ltd today delivered the first leg of the important double, the concert date.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 25.

"We've announced the date as early as possible to give out-of-town Mission Concert fans the opportunity to book accommodation and travel well in advance," SEL's director of operations Garry Craft said.

But at this stage the announcement of who would star at the iconic open-air concert was still up in the air, although indications are it could be made in the next few days as SEL also announced Mission Club members could make bookings from 9am next Tuesday. Hospitality package bookings would open at noon that day on the www.missionconcert.co.nz website.

Mission Estate chief executive Peter Holley said preparations at the concert site were already underway. Neither would hint at who would be headlining, although the rumour mill had begun to crank up.

Lionel Richie, a soul star of the 80s but still performing, has become a warm favourite. Rumours still abound of Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Paul Simon and Paul McCartney.

If they come here I'll be one of the first people to buy a ticket!! I'm excited already!

Of course it's probably not gonna happen...

Yer well it could fit in well with a time line of Stevie performing in Australia...like I said, Stevie is a kind of "confirmed rumour" for Australia for next year, but maybe I shall save more and head to New Zealand as well...it only costs about $200 nowadays.
