Prez to announce SC nominee tonight

All signs point to Alberto Gonzales, the current Attorney General because the Senate, via the recent bipartisan pact to reach a consensus, has already approved him for a cabinet position and he will be the first Latino on the Court. All things considered and even though I am not a fan of his, he is relatively tame when compared some of the far right wingers W has put in the lower courts and could nominate for The Court.

In fact, his appointment would be a defeat for the far, far Christian right because in 2000, Texas Supreme Court Justice Alberto Gonzales wrote an opinion supporting a minor's right to abortion without the consent of her parents. I know the far, far left wants no parental notification whatsoever, but that will never happen and is unrealistic in the view of the vast majority of Americans who consider such notification with a judicial bypass for the very limited case of parental abuse as an insignificant burden on the right to choose. If it were your kid, wouldn't you demand to know that they were undergoing a potentially life threatening procedure

Again, I am not a fan, but recognize that Gonzales would be a gift considering what it could be.
