And when she says she went out with Don..she means LINDSEY...and OF COURSE Gypsy is about LINDSEY...oh yeah he wrote the lyrics to Gypsy too, didnt you know that? He should get full songwriters credit for all of Stevie's words..even though he wrote none of them..

Maybe Stevie was a virgin until she met Lindsey..and she has never been with another man since!!!'

My original point was that Stevie was not talking about Waddy directly in that passage. I never said she was talking about anyone else in particular. She doesn't mention anyone but Waddy by name, but to my reading, she is reflecting on a situation that involves someone and maybe it is Waddy but that is not what I read. She brings up Waddy's name in a side context near the end of that passage. If you believe by doing so, she's saying Waddy was once her lover, OK by me. Maybe he was? If the only reason to believe it is because of the Timespace liner notes, then I see it as a very thin argument. jmho. When reading things like that from Stevie I take into consideration the timeframe and remember what she was like, as well as what she was going through when Timespace was issued. To me, not everything is clear in black and white especially when it comes to Stevie. People see things differently. How can it be argued otherwise as with those who currently think she's doing Waddy now, and everyone else in the band, just because she's being openly flirty on stage during this tour as she was last night? Everyone's got a different take on these things. I look at the big picture not just selected details. The devils in the details, so who knows?

OK, so you think that she is talking about someone else before she mentions WADDY. So talks about this mystery man who she says: I adored him...he was everything I wanted to be: a real rock and roller ... and a lover of the Stones...small and frail sometimes, but in many ways the strongest person I had ever known. His word was law. I became him ... he became me, and no one dared intrude upon this union. He is no longer with me, but his spirit twin never leaves him. is not Waddy but a fake character that Stevie just made up. It certainly does not fit any member of The Mac so we can rule that out right there.
Oh maybe it was Joe Walsh!! He and Waddy are friends, too He certainly is a real rocker, too but I am not too sure about the Stones lover. He might be strong due to his daughter’s death. The other thing that does not make sense is that Stevie was not involved with him till after she wrote this song. I wonder if it might be one of her premonition songs. It really does seem to fit him oddly enough because she did fall hard for him but he did not feel the same way.
It still seems odd that she would mention Waddy's name when she might be talking about Joe or someone else.

Where did anyone say that Lindsey should get full songwriting credit for Gypsy? I remember people pointing out that she shares credits for songs with other people and Lindsey played a big part in helping her with Gypsy. Some feel maybe he deserves partial credit, like Shanks, Cambell, Sandy Stewart, etc etc etc etc have with a variety of her songs. Believe what you want about BatB but give the man some credit for helping her with Gypsy ....even Stevie knows he did.

I totally agree but the completely sarcastic misrepresentation of a past thread annoys me. No one said he deserved a full credit but that is how it keeps getting repeated. I don't think Linds cares, so neither do I but he really did wonders for that particular song, IMHO.

As for the rest of this thread?? JOE WALSH was at the show tonight and gasp, Stevie dedicated HAEWAFY to him. She is doing him now right? He has ditched his wife and two boys and is shacking up with La Nicks I assume. Or better yet, how about I completely disrespect Stevie and accuse her of flaunting her illicit relationship with a HAPPILY married man for the world to see. The theories around here about Stevie and Lindsey aren't the ones that are wacked. At least the people with those theories show some level of respect to other posters and don't pepper every single freaking post with immature sarcasm and a mocking tone.

Peace!

That is cool that Joe Walsh was there, I guess that they must be on speaking terms. Stevie really was in love with him. It must have been hard to sing that song with him being there.
Do we even know if Joe is still married? Maybe HenleyFan would know.

Can I ask some questions? I'm fairly new to all this. Not new to my love of Stevie or FM , but new to some of these theories. I have my opinions about that passage that Stevie wrote and I do think she wrote it about Waddy for the reasons that everyone else listed above. One of my questions is: why do people think Stevie is dating/sleeping with or in love with Lindsey? I'm not sure who thinks it and who doesn't but after reading all 21 pages of this thread, I think I know who might think he is and who definitely doesn't. I really don't know who Stevie is with and I suspect Waddy, but he is married. So, I don't know. Joe is also married. The people that I *think* think she's in some sort of a thing with Lindsey seem to feel Stevie wouldn't be with a married man, but Lindsey's married. So, this is confusing. Can someone please fill me in.

It seems that Joe and his wife have separated.....but I don't think it has anything to do with Stevie.

That's cool he was at Stevie's show last night. He's been in Cleveland the last few days doing James Gang shows. Joe seems to be at the making amends part of his recovery so maybe he and Stevie have gotten over their past and now can be friends.

The same arguments bear repeating. Stevie made many demos of Gypsy, some quite polished (see the recently surfaced master reels). And especially, the song was recorded with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during the Bella Donna sessions PRIOR to the recording of the Mirage album (again the master reels). The "TP Gypsy" certainly isn't that different from the "FM Gypsy". So what is this "big part in helping her" that Lindsey supposedly played?
