Well what's next, the govt. telling people how to spend their money. I am sorry sir, but the govt. has determined that you need only this much to survive -- so please put down that object, you cannot have it as it is not needed. That is a little frightening to me.

Yup. Them there millionaires and people who make hundreds of thousands yearly are going to needlessly suffer. But, hey, at least they'll be doing it in style with their Gucci and ridiculously extravagant homes.

It just amazes me how people are willing to perpetuate hate by doing exactly what they hate to those they hate and then saying they do not care because two wrongs make a right.

It isn't a wrong and it's not perpetuating hate.

I don't think the idea of wealthy people who have extra giving a little bit of that extra to the government safety net so that those who have nothing can have just a tiny bit is wrong- or hateful.

Define "ridiculously extravagant homes" - I would suggest that to many, no one needs half the stuff you sell them - yet you sell it My point is not to scold you, but to point out that the minute someone says "you don't need that" or "you live too high on the hog" watch out - because ya better be willing to have that standard applied to everyone and I can assure you that those dumpster digging impoverished people you were just championing would look on the way you live your life with scorn and disdain - I mean they do not vacation in Maine, they do not have a cool car, they do not have a cool computer, they do not have all the cash they need, etc.

Thus, I conclude no one ought to tell anyone how to live lest they be willing to have that harsh light turned on their lives by those less fortunate than they are.

Didn't we get into a big fight about this awhile back and you told me to piss off I suspect its coming again

Especially since so many of the rich are the ones making their money off of the very people who have nothing. These people don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of, yet taxing the rich a bit more to give the poor a somewhat better life is called "unfair"? What do you call the impoverished lives these people lead? Fair?

I do not either - all I am saying is anything over 20% total is ridiculous. You all are the ones talking about punishing the rich because they have been screwing the poor for years. I think the venom in that statement does nothing to address the problem.

Again, I am not saying the poor should not receive help. I have also said many times prior to this that if you make less than say $30,000 a year, you ought not to have to pay any taxes as long as no one abuses how they get to $30,000 a year. All I am saying is no one ought to have to pay more tha 20% total. It is beyond me how that is so offensive to the poor.

The statement is yours, my dear.

I never said anything about "punishing" the rich, I just think the rich should stop their "punishing" of the poor. I don't think a progressive tax is punishment- I think it is just and fair.

Dissention flat out said it

and

I thought you implied it in this exchange:

Strand:

It is always "screw the rich they can afford it and are inherently evil anyway"

Tower:

Oh, puh-leeeeze..... What a load of horse****! And you know it. The "rich" have been screwing the rest of this country for some time now, not the other way around.

If I was incorrect

Also, all I am saying about a tax is that the highest rate should be 20% total for all taxes - how we get there is open for debate.

No one needs to hire someone to design the decor in their living space, it's a luxury. I would never presume to call it anything different. I have tons of **** that I don't need and I do plenty of things that I don't need to do. Your point? I don't live in an extravagnat home, I live in an apartment that's no different from most. You make it seem that anyone who sympathizes with those who don't have as much as they do is somehow a dirty person. That logic is f*cked up.

I've already said I'm willing to pay much more taxes than I already do. Raise my taxes, go ahead. I don't spend close to what I make, so I have no need for all of it. The money I make is obscene and I don't keep it all. I've always wanted to open a homeless shelter, as I've said before, and I will one day. I grew up without a lot of things because we were poor, I know the value of a dollar. I worked in a welfare office for several years, I know what people go through and I've seen it firsthand. Forgive me if we have different views on how the less fortunate out there should be treated.

I already claim 5 on my main job - I should up it to 7.

Well, considering my job, concerts, music, books, travel are all mostly deductible. I see a concert, seeing the set is research. Ditto movies, architecture, magazines, etc. Plus, all I have to do is have a business meeting on a trip, basically. It's ridiculous.
