I second Deanna's sentiment. The girl has no class. That's probably the main reason I dislike her.

Didn't she take years of vocal lessons to perfect the control of her voice and then start playing around and showing off as she does in many of her songs? I think it shows. It's one thing to have that range but to know how to use it is difficult.

Well, that's what my choir teacher always said in high school. Learn how to sing well (or as well as you're capable of singing) and control your voice, then you can play around like Mariah Carey, who can do it all. My choir teacher, who was pretty rigid about the "right way" to do things, admired Mariah quite a bit.

She has one helluva set of pipes

even if her musical choice is questionable and people may object to her on a personal level.

Oh I think she can sing, don't get me wrong. But I think she can sing like every other diva out there so it really doesn't do anything for me, ya know? I like unique voices, not necessarily "the best" singers. I mean, Neil Young is one of my top ten favorite vocalists of all time if that tells you anything

. I like a voice that moves me. I like voices that are less than perfect with some character, not people who sound like they've been training for a million years (not that there's anything wrong with that fundamentally).

EXACTLY. I'm not a fan of Mariah's voice per se because she's shrill and annoying with her use of it, but she keeps the vocal histrionics to herself on her new record, thankfully. I can't stand a lot of the "technically perfect" singers because they're so perfect that they're devoid of emotion when they sing. Listening to them is just boring. Give me Carly Simon or Aimee Mann over the likes of Celine and Whitney.

I think in her day, Whitney had emotion in her voice. I think Saving All My Love For You and I Knew Him So Well are good examples of that. She is, though, a sad picture of how drugs can mess up your life.

Back in the day, she had a nice voice because those types of diva singers weren't as prevalent. But then she started making horrific music in the early-nineties, married the King of R&B Mr. Bobby Brown, and lost everything she once had. Mariah and Celine stole a lot of her thunder, too.

They most certainly did until WH came out with "The Bodyguard" which put her back on top and I do not think that record has been beaten. Also, her second to last record (I think) was a comeback for her. I truly wish her luck, but let me tell ya around here people despise her and that thing she is married to.

She hasn't sold records in ages, dear. The last one that did well was her double-disc greatest hits collection. She has become an absolute joke. If she didn't act like such utter trash, she might still have a somewhat decent career.

Yea, I was thinking of was that one. The subsequent ones have been awful, though I liked that one song she did on Boston Public and she has had recent critical success touring in the Far East - then again they like the Yoko Ono school of singing over there

so WH must sound like an angel to them

Boston Public?! I didn't know her career was in THAT bad shape.

Last I heard, Whitney was back in rehab. Though I did see paparazzi footage taken of her going absolutely ape**** in South Africa, throwing her arms in the air and screaming and weeping for God.
