Doesn't it make more sense to assume, if you think Stevie Nicks is a really great poet, blah blah blah, that she has written about dozens of different experiences & people over the decades, & brought her little measure of wisdom (blah blah blah) to many of the little cracks & crevices, the nooks & crannies of experience? How great can a poet be -- any poet -- who has nothing to write about for 30 years except a single love affair & the fallout from it? Does Stevie live in a shoebox?

Hey, let me ask you this about SB. I know you meant she wanted somebody to stop her from marying Kim not Robin, so just for ****s and giggles, suppose that does come across if you listen to that song. I didn't know she wrote it on her wedding night until about 5 years ago but when I saw her sing it on Solid Gold in '83 I believed it was about her wedding and her having a change of heart and desire about marriage in general. If you've seen the Civil War version of SB, the one she wanted made but doesn't want anyone to see, do you see any meaning it that little movie? |

By the way, since I love to speculate about Stevie songs too I think BATB is about Stevie-Mick relationship (not only the intimate side, but also their friendship, their roles in FM, their being easily labeled by media and fans) and about the person she felt to be at the time.Romy

ITA, hunting down quotes and articles will never result in much of a clear view. I also agree about Stevie having confusion on her own songs, but I disagree on her revelations about her writing process. It plays to her need to shade her honest feelings and emotions if she talks about process and not meaning. People run with her explanations of her songs and they often run the wrong way, imo, but so many people are buying into Stevie's confessional poetry style of writing because they think they understand her songs so much when she says she writes from her journals and writes the truth. Songs are personal to everyone and I don't really care what she was meaning to herself in her lyrics unless I hear her say one thing about a song then contradict that statement in another interview or within the lyrics of the very song she spoke about. I find that annoying and she does it all the time. I don't think it's because she wants to mislead people. I think it's for another reason. I think she should not talk about the meanings or inspirations of her songs if she wants to be ambiguos on the meanings. Nobody but she knows what she thought about 100% of the time while penning a poem. Like you said, I'm not sure she always knows either. Last edited by glitter_fades; 05-21-2005 at 10:16 PM.. |
