Maybe she's different in this movie, but I think she's one of the most unfunny people ever. It's like people think she's funny because she's a black woman...well I have to say that I live around tons of them and the vast majority of them are funnier than she is. Ugh, here I go with generalizations.
I think Wanda Sykes is f*cking hilarious. I saw a double bill of her and Reno (who I also adore) and just thought that she was amazing. Her specials on Comedy Central are great, too. But like Sandra Bernhard and Sarah Silverman (two of my favorites), she's an acquired taste.

Monster-In-Law is just fluff, nothing more. It's funny, stupid, and entertaining as all get out. I'd see it again in a heartbeat.

I was fanning myself in the theater. My gawd. It doesn't get much more perfect than him, folks.

I just loved seeing Fonda again, especially in a comedy since she rarely did those.

(I feel like I'm being argumentative like you here ) I don't know about the other two, but I don't think of Sykes as an acquired taste, unless you have to acquire a taste for someone who does nothing original and doesn't even do it well, anyway.

See, I have to make up for the fact that I saw nothing but stupid movies when I was a teenager. My lowest moment was probably Down to You. Horrid. I think I've probably seen more stupid movies in my lifetime than anyone should be able to, and so I've forfeited my right to go see something just because it's entertaining now. I've got no one to blame but myself.

But this one is actually funny! Probably the only decent movie J Lo has ever made (next to Out of Sight). Not that I've seen them all because I think she's a horrific actress.

How anyone could pay cash money to see a Freddie Prinze Jr. flick is a mystery to me, though...

two things:

Runciman's "History of the Crusades" - refreshing the memory in preparation for the new orlando bloom flick - have to be able to pick out every inconsistency and inaccuracy because that's just the person that i am.

Dante's "Divine Comedy" - my old standby, have read it through at least ten times (shares the most-read title with "Interview with the Vampire")

I haven't seen Out of Sight but I've been told that she can actually act really well in that one. I've seen some of her other movies (such as The Wedding Planner) that were so bad.

I wanted to see every piece of crap like that when it came out! Every last one that came to the theater I made my Mom take me to see. And she sat thorugh them, usually unhappily. It wasn't until we saw A Walk to Remember that I finally started hating them along with her. God, that was bad. And can you believe that I actually liked Freddie Prinze Jr. back then? I was insane!

I <3 Out of Sight. But I love Soderbergh's style.

One of my favorite books ever . Eggers is hilarious. Have you read "They Shall Know Our Velocity?" (I think that's the title. - maybe it's "You Shall...")

Right now, I'm reading The Mermaid Chair by Susan Monk Kidd (the woman who wrote The Secret Life of Bees.) Very good so far.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll check 'em out.

I travel non-stop, so I get a lot of reading time in airports and on planes.

This week I've got with me:

Island Of The Sequined Love Nun - Christopher Moore
A Short History Of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson
Elvis, Jesus & Coca-Cola - Kinky Freidman
BushWorld - Maureen Dowd
