True! That video is one of my earliest memories of MTV. Ah, I appear to be out of the loop again and do not know the backstory with Dave Stewart... I mean, I know he co-wrote the song, but

K, now:

Watching the Detectives by Elvis Costello. Love it.

There's a bit of background about it in the book that comes with Petty's boxed set, but essentially, he offered it to her first and she "balked" at the prospect of recording it. It's then said that that the two of them didn't exactly get along very well afterwards, so he offered it to Petty to spite her.

Thanks for the info, diss. I wonder why exactly she wouldn't want to record it? Another mystery...

Beats me. I've kind of wondered how it would have sounded as a Eurythmics song, actually.

I don't, but it's next on my music queue at YourMusic.com. I just downloaded the acoustic track after hearing it in the commercial for her MTV live performance.

My favorite Tori song ever. It's gorgeous. Have you heard the Dakota version, with the cello?

Surely have not - just the album version.

And diss, I don't know why but I just cannot see Annie Lennox singing that song AT ALL.

Ooh, I can. I'm sure there must be a demo or outtake out there of her singing it on it, too. I'd pay cash money to hear it.

They didn't do it very often, but when they did, it was great. They've done Shakedown live (the rap song from Curse of Blondie) a few times, too; I believe it's still up for download on AOL Sessions.
