I think the walking stick (or stick insects, as some call them) are rampant in Louisiana. I'm in a suburban area and there are many, but I bet there are even more in rural areas. Ugh. I don't think I've ever spent any time around any. Man, I need some pets of some kind. I wish my parents weren't so opposed and the university didn't forbid it in the dorms. Oh, and I meant to say--I've only seen a scorpion once, and it kind of scared me. I watched it walk around and that was interesting because it was new to me, but I was really scared to do anything else because I was afraid it would pinch and/or sting me! And I do admit that it wasn't all that attractive, either.

Oh, I would love to see some foreign bugs! I've been looking for field guides on Amazon for bugs on other continents, and so far I've only found one for African insects. I'd love just to see the pictures because I hear they're so different other places, and significantly bigger. I get all excited about big bugs, especially those monstrous dragonflies and full-grown cicadas. Australia has cool bugs, too? That would be a great field guide to find somewhere. I would be screaming about the roach, too. Those are never pleasant. I would be wise and stay away from the deadly spider, too. Do y'all have gigantic stink bugs in Australia? I was young when I saw one for the first time, and I had not yet learned that I can't touch every insect or arachnid I see. I was with my Dad and I picked it up and held it and then thought to ask, "What's this called?" He said, "A stink bug," and then I put it down and noticed that my hand smelled pretty bad. Okay, so I should quit now, since I could go on forever about bugs.

Just don't forget, dear, the Australia has at least 2 kinds of common spiders that live nicely among humans, where the bite will kill you if you don't get the anti venom, or whatever, within a half hour. Enjoy!

Yes they're just knocking us off left, right and centre. Our 20 million has nothing to do with population control, we're just being consumed by wildlife. You'd better watch out for those giant kangaroos that leap by at night snatching children. Then there's the Drop Bears.

Um, are you snarking? I'm sorry, I watched a show on the deadly creatures that live in Australia, it freaked my sh** out. It showed a funnel web, I think, just cruising around under water of this pool some kids were swimming in, and this other kind that lives all around the dark crevices of people's homes. Oh, and don't even get me started on the deadly snakes. I mean, I know most people in the country are not victims, and i'm sure everyone is fine and all, but it still scared the cr** outta me. Oh, and they showed this part of the ocean where they have to put jellyfish nets, cause the jellyfish venom is extremely poisonous, and at some parts of the year there's bazillions of them, and people get stung.

That comparison isn't even fair because I remember my first day in LA and being terrified because the news was full of gun-related crimes. What the f*ck? There aren't gun-related crimes down here. Well there are but they're criminals who've stolen them and they're very rare. I'll stick with the knowledge that there's deadly snakes way out in the outback.

Id venture to say that in parts of Amber's hometown (which is where I was born btw) you dont dare wear the wrong colors or be walking the streets after dark if you dont live there (or maybe even if you do...) or drive the wrong kind of car...
What with Drive-bys and gang wars and robberies and drug related crime, I think Lux is prob far safer with the world's deadliest spider, as scary as that sounds. Now if you could just get those pesky roos under control! (of course, I am joking about the Kangaroos, I dont live with them and dont see them as anything other than the beautiful unique animals that they are)

anyway, I think what I am trying to say is we all adapt to where we are and its the strange, the unfamiliar that scares us...

Not where i live, but way, way, way, way, way down the street, yeah. Oakland and SF do have high murder rates. It's mostly gang related, though. And no matter where anyone, ever, lives, including here, the bugs there will always scare the sh** outta me, familiar or not.

All teasing aside, I think hoisting a brew is a much saner activity than gang warfare or drug related crime....this is what happens when you cram too many people in too small a space and destructive items are too easily come by. I dont like guns either (I think I've made that clear) and IMO they are best left to law enforcement or the military, certainly not in the casual hands of gangs or good old boys.

all teasing aside, I havent seen it either....I wonder, could you contact your department of animal control or the sheriff's office (or whoever it is that deals with deer that are hit by motorists) and see if they have any fresh (ewwww that sounds so bad, but Im trying to help here!) meat? Obviously, an animal that has been hit will bleed internally, but if you get them soon enough and butcher them before too much time has passed, you might be able to avoid the livery taste....my brother saw a deer get hit by a motorist and convinced the animal control to let him take it off their hands, and he took it home and dressed it and all that....personally, I think its all kinda icky but at least this way you arent going into the wild and taking a live animal, but rather one whose life was ended by accidental means...

I have seen venison for sale here in So Cal at an upscale grocer called Bristol Farms. Other local markets regularly sell buffalo and ostrich meat, although from what I can tell both of those animals are now part of the meat industry nationwide.
