Sara Recor certainly knew, early on. She got pretty upset with both Stevie & Mick, "My Life & Adventures" reports.

I think the other members & crew of Fleetwood Mac knew about Stevie & Mick's relationship before 1978 was over. I think in some ways that relationship was the inspiration for a couple of songs that were being produced for "Tusk" that year.

Several that threw me for a loop when I found out about them over the years:

1. One of the trashy rock mags back around 1980 or 1981 printed a photo of Stevie & Mick & captioned it with something about their having been going out together. Of course at the time I thought it was just totally fabricated. Wish I could find that photo; it's the earliest mention I can remember of their affair.

2. Walter Egan revealing in a Q&A here several years ago that he had fallen for Stevie a long time ago, & that "Magnet & Steel" was written about her & him.

3. Reading somewhere many years ago that Fleetwood Mac's lighting guru Curry Grant dated Stevie after he & Christine split.

4. Attending my first Street Angel show at Arco Arena & hearing Stevie introduce "Destiny." She fell in love with some guy in 1973 back in Menlo & seriously considered staying with him.

The line, "you fell in love when I was only 10." Is that line about Mick? How much older than Stevie is Mick? Maybe he married the first time when she was only 10. Ahhh...don't think so. Stevie and Mick are almost the same age. He might be about 1-2 years older, about the same age gap as Stevie is to Lindsey. Chris is older than Mick, and Stevie and Chris aren't even 10 years apart.

Does the song literally have to be about people with a ten year age gap? Maybe she just picked the number ten because it makes an easy rhyme?

Actually, Mick was born on June 24, 1942, and Stevie was born on May 26, 1948. Therefore, there is about a six year age gap there. When Stevie was ten, Mick was 16. Mick met Jenny Boyd in 1965, therefore Mick was 23 at the time, and that makes Stevie, 17, at the time. Therefore, "the only 10" comment isn't about Mick and Jenny and Stevie.

Yes, like Billboard. I have a co-worker that took Lindsey's incorrect date of birth listed in one of their books as law. I had to convince him that it was 1949 not 1947 thus making my co-worker OLDER then Lindsey.

I think 1947 is the correct year. Mick is 11 months older than Stevie.

This is true. I just thought that there had finally been a consensus about this matter, and it was settled that Mick's birth date was in 1942. It is good to know that there is still confusion about it.

That is not the way I hear that line at all. Not even a little bit. I figured it was meant to be poetic, perhaps used to rhyme. I guess that could be the case. I just always thought it was a weird phrase. The fact that she would deliberately put "when I was only ten" meant to me that something profound happened to her or someone else when she was only ten years old. I don't know...with Stevie one never knows

I've had this "discussion" many a time... and let's just say, it's gotten a little heated on more than one occasion. I've always thought Beautiful Child was about Mick, and that the line is literal. It's very possible that Mick's first experience falling in love was at 16. Didn't have to be Jenny Boyd. Coulda been the girl next door. But I did always think he was 6 years older than Stevie - I seem to remember a quote from Chris one time, where she said Mick was "way older" than everyone else. The poetry Stevie uses in this song just has a different feel to it than the poetry she uses in songs about Lindsey. And don't ask me to explain that!!
