Default Melbourne 1980 show ending

Hey guys, question time. I've had the Melbourne 1980 (or at least one of them) for years now, but never listened to it for sound reasons (which by the way, it's a wonder what sounds you can hear when you turn up the volume, LOL). Anyway, I believe it's before the encores, they are thanking everyone, and Stevie says something about "This black rose is for all you people who don't have any energy!" Umm...does anyone know why she got so pissy with the crowd? Or if it was a joke, I don't get it.

Wow. I'm going to have to listen to that again. Is this the show where Lindsey sounds completely off his rocker?

HAVE YOU LISTENED TO THE CROWD?????????????????

THEY SUCK.

You can only hear like 4 or 5 people cheering. That had to be the worst crowd in FM history.

It's a soundboard.

Yup. I remember at one point he keeps saying "Stevie...stevie...STEVIE..." in different voices & volumes. I think it's the intro to Sara? Hilarious!

I think that's the show where Lindsey went bonkers and supposedly kicked Stevie. Neither of them remember I think because they were too high.

According to Mick, that was a show in New Zealand that was going out over the radio airwaves.

That anecdote gets more mileage than a postal carrier truck!

I think some people from England said that was a BBC-2 radio broadcast pilfered by some enterprising bootlegger. (The original CD-R package doesn't specify.) To tell the truth, it doesn't even sound like an FM radio broadcast to me -- it sounds a bit dirtier. But so does the '88 German FM broadcast, so maybe that's just the way live rock radio is over there.

I think some fans throw that word "soundboard" around hither & thither (some fans have called the Fresno 12-10-87 show a soundboard, although it was a radio broadcast for Westwood One). I've always thought the true soundboards (Memphis '82, Denver '82, Oakland '82, Yokohama '80, Little Rock '77, Baton Rouge '78, etc.) tend to have low crowd noise because these recordings are direct (i.e., through cables instead of mics) recordings straight to tape (or CD-R these days) via the soundboard, or mixing board, itself. The levels are set exactly at where the soundguys "played" the mixing board -- you may not be hearing what you'd hear FOH, for example. That would include audience noise, which can be microphoned for recording by a recording unit for radio broadcast, but the mixing board is picking up only peripheral, or secondary, audience noise (essentially anything that finds its way into the singers' mics). My band had a soundboard recording made of a recent gig, & because it's taped direct through the mixing board, the audience stuff sounds very distant & very low in relation to the band.

Oops! My bad. I've even read the book so I should know better. For some reason I thought it was Melbourne. I get confused. Thanks David.
