Can you list them for me? I've forgotten them.

I don't know them either. I tried thinking of them earlier and all I could think of were the seven deadly sins, of which I could only remember four.

Here in this STRONGLY CONSERVATIVE county in which I live, the 10 Commandments have now been posted in our courthouse. The "League of the South" is the group who donated them to our Courthouse , a group who in the past has been quoted as using racial words against blacks, and for some reason is highly respected here. They feel they are "Sent from God" to put the Commandments in public buildings.

1. I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.

3. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long.

6. Thou shalt not kill.

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

8. Thou shalt not steal.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor's.

I find this more comical than anything. Trust me, my friends, I do not covet my neighbors ass.

Thanks for posting them!

And another problem is the serious contradictions with the 10 commandments in other parts of the bible

Happy are they who dance and smash their children's head upon a rock....

OMG, I just thought of that one, too!!!

Or the one where it said that a man should murder his wife if she cheats. Or starve his child to death if he gets a smart mouth.

I am pretty sure The Bible does not contradict itself. Granted it is the history of the western and near Eastern world and it shows the evolution of man until about 100 years after Christ, which suggests change, but I cannot think of any direct contradictions.

Tone: curious and respectful

I think the clear contradictions are between what the Bible says and what followers of the Bible do and say. But that's just me.

Thought I don't agree with the posting of these in government buildings and such - I am also not hight offended by them.

Why not ignore their presence? So you don't believe...don't read them...I dunno...not a big issue for me....I feel the same way about the Pledge - don't like it? Don't say it...if it's so offensive to you to utter the words, "Under God" then don't....we all still have free will....I was never forced to say the Pledge...but whatever - if they change it I also don't care about that haha..

I guess I just don't get the intensity of these issues....but it's interesting that whenever you bring God into the mix people get super passionate and angry and offended....

In my hometown(which i seem to be talking about a lot lately) Our logo is three crosses. The town NAME is Las Cruces (meaning the crosses). Well about a year ago this guy who protest everything and anything decided that our logo should be changed because it's a religious symbol.

In context the town was named "The Crosses" because when the settlers came across it there were three wooden crosses marking a grave... So...anyway - this guy lost and I'm glad because come on....by the logo and name being there it's not saying , "BELIEVE" it's a very diverse city with many religions...I just don't see what the big deal is....and frankly if you're THAT offended by christian symbols and the very word "God" then perhaps you have some issues to look at - I find it quite easy to just not be bothered by all this stuff....

The thing is, why should I have to be subjected to those things? Why should I have to see the Ten Commandments every time I go to court for jury duty? Why should the pledge of allegiance for my country have to include such isolating elements to it? I shouldn't be in a situation where my government is pushing the mainstream belief in God down my throat. I don't force my atheist beliefs down anyones throat, I don't post my religious beliefs on my front door for everyone to be subjected to, and I most certainly don't make pledges that push my religious beliefs in public places.

If courts of law were to post my religious beliefs that there is no such thing as God, don't you think that Christians would be knocking down doors in anger because they were offended at my religious beliefs? You can bet your ass. So why should I have to be presented with their beliefs by governemnt institutions?

I think Christians would argue that by taking God out of everything they ARE being pelted with atheistic views every day.....at least that's what I've heard people argue....

Again - I don't think the courts or any government establishment should post anything religious - I'm just not super opposed or whatever...it just doesn't bother me...

True, many Christians feel that way. But, the main reason they feel that way is becuase their Church is telling them that God must be endorsed by the Govt. or they and we are all going to Hell. That is a specious argument. No one is saying I, as a citizen, cannot put the TC in my house, etc. What the courts are saying is the govt. cannot officially do so because it violated the Establishment Clause of the Const. Thus, I think people get offended by it or it bothers them because they feel like second class citizens. If I were a Muslim, I would be scared of discrimmination if I say the Christian TC in the courtroom where I was being tried That is why IMO people should be free to practice whatever peaceful religion they want, but the govt. should not be required to validate it.
