I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love the Street Angel tour. Stevie was singing with a renewed passion and hitting notes she hadn't gone near in years. I think it's because she realized she had something to prove back then, to win back her fans' respect after five years of lazy vocal performances. Now, she's gotten a little lazy again.

Yes, I love that version too. So trippy, with that moaning and Lindsey's guitar behind her. For techinal merit, no, but for psychedellic sexual energy, you bet.

My all time fave is the "I just bought a curling iron" Midnight Special one. I love the close-up of her face - some great "all the sa-ame" wailings there too....

My second fave is the Japan one!!

My third fave would be the B/N live version!

I thought that this was a really tough question, but a very good one! I had to think on it a few days.

(1)Fleetwood Mac--Live in Passaic 1975. My all-time favorite. It has the Welsh Witch intro, which is neat. She hits all those notes perfectly. She is just so "into it," and I think this version especially highlights that era of Rhiannon. The guitar solo is great. I love the ummmmmmmmmm's before she does "Dreams Unwind~~Love's a State of Mind." I love the yell at the end. Perfection all the way around!

Here are some others I really like, as well. I like each of these for different reasons, but I'll save you guys the blabbing and just list these :

Stevie Nicks---9/17/94 Hollywood, CA "Welcome to My World;"
Stevie Nicks--"Dreamer" (complication from "White Wing Dove Tour and "Wild Heart Tour);
Fleetwood Mac-Shine Angel from St. Louis 1979 and Oakland 1982; and
Fleetwood Mac---Dancing Alone--(It is a live, Dance era version, but her vocals are really up front on this track.).

If I could pick a favorite studio version, I would have to go with the Single Mix, which is on Fleetwood Mac B-sides and More Disc 1. It is just fabulous!

It has an extended intro not remarkably dissimilar to that of the Dance Tour. The actual body of the song, aside from Stevie taking a lot more liberties vocally, is not overly distinguishable. And yes, Lindsey is not playing guitar. Tear.

However, the ending, beginning with "Dreams unwind..." is all sung the EXACT same way as it had been nearly 20 years before! There is less screaming, but the DREAMS UNWIND, STILL IT'S A STATE OF MIND etc. etc. are all done on that high G or whatever it is, I used to know it. The note that Stevie sings a full octave lower these days. It's crazy. When I first heard it, I hadn't thought she had been able to hit those notes since at least 1982. And here she was, singing Live 80 all over again. The very end manages to stay in her upper register, never dipping to the depths it saw during The Dance or SYW Tour, yet still captures "Whooaaa.. you still cry out to her, and he says, don't leave me, DON'T leave me........." It works very well high, and makes me wish she never got lazy.

Another gem from this performance is Stand Back, which I believe to be the definitive version. Again, she's not afraid to take all the chances, even some we'd never heard. What a groundbreaking concert!

I hate to break it to you, but that end part is all a studio overdub.
I went to the show the night before the taping, and her voice was pretty ragged. I was also there the night of the taping in question, and it was being simulcast on a local radio station - KLSX if my memory serves me correctly. I taped that live broadcast and it was dismal. Her voice was in terrible shape.
Every offical ''recording" with those strong high notes that I have heard gives itself away quickly. If you listen closely, you can hear that she is singing over a very low volume track of her original vocal. They were either too lazy to take it off or her vocal wasn't recorded on a separate track.

I agree it is a good version - but a live version it wasn't. There were some great renditions of Rhainnon on that tour. I saw the tour 7 or 8 times. But none of them were nearly as strong as that studio overdub. Not even close.

For the record, my favorite versions of this song were from the Tusk tour. Like I have said many times, the song now needs to be retired. I no longer like it. It's essentially a fluid break for me.

I too like the Rosebud version, with the little intro about the novel and all. The performance is very good.
I also loved Rhiannon this tour, especially in Bakersfield Oct. 15 2003.

LOL. I never made it that far into the show on the recording...or I skipped it. After about the second date on that tour, Destiny became my fluid break. Which is, incidentally, when I saw the famous 'drag queens run out the men's room incident' in Vegas. Priceless !
