Wow, thanks so much for the generous welcome! I knew y'all seemed like a cool bunch just from reading the conversations. (Yes, I occasionally slip in a "y'all," and no, I'm not from the South; it just sounds more intelligent than the "youse" that is indigenous to the Scranton area! )

I agree with Jake that it's nice to learn a bit about newcomers to a forum apart from "Hi, I'm new"--but at the same time, I hope I didn't put anyone to sleep rambling on like that!

Interesting to read that other women here were/are smitten with Lindsey--that's exactly what happened to me when I was 13. At the time, he seemed SO much older, and it's rather startling to realize now that his wife is only a few years older than me. If y'all can bear to read another of my memories...it was bad enough that I liked this terminally "uncool" band in junior high school, but try being in eighth grade and telling your too-cool-for-the-room classmates you have a crush on a guy who a) is old enough to be your father and b) has a "girl's" name. Throughout that year, I endured torment from my male classmates, ranging from works of fiction about being stalked by the "Lindsey Monster" that they would write for class assignments and read aloud to the class, to a puerile little song they wrote to the tune of the Flintstones theme, which made certain allegations about Mr. Buckingham's sexual preferences. The irony here is that, while Lindsey is by all accounts quite heterosexual, I gradually discovered that....well, let's just say Stevie and Christine were more my type!

Carlene: Love the bit about playing Tango at the record store, and I'd love to read your report if you can find it. Oh, and I'm sorry my Scranton show had to be at the expense of your Pittsburgh one.

Kortni: Thanks for sharing your story about almost meeting Brett. I do remember seeing when you originally posted it, now that you reminded me. I did a double-take when I saw his name, though--I tend to think of Brett as a girl's name because of a female celebrity I like by that name. Much the same reason I think of Lindsey as a guy's name, actually. Anyway, hope you get to meet him for real next time! Oh, and I know your friend isn't the first person to get Lindsey's and Stevie's names mixed up; didn't Bob Welch say something in one of his Penguin Q & A's about being confused at first?
