For example, most newspapers follow Associated Press style, which is to set off titles of most types of books, movies, TV shows, songs, plays, operas & even works of art (the "Mona Lisa") with quotation marks.

Other style guides, including the Chicago Manual of Style & other university press books, reserve quote marks for magazine articles, book chapters, poems & songs, & prefer that you use either italic or underline, depending on the printing situation, for books, movies, TV shows, plays, etc.

Boards like this one provide bold, italic, underline & other attributes, but I still use quote marks for books & movie titles & the like because I think it's easier to read on a computer monitor than, say, italic.

One thing's for sure: Do NOT follow the style used in your typical Fleetwood Mac tourbook.
Thanks for that David.
The newspapers here in Britain (as in the broadsheets, I don't know about the tabloids!) don't tend to put quotation marks around any title whether it be a song, book, film or whatever. I'm kinda used to that. If you use capitals for all the words in a title (ie Tango In The Night rather than Tango in the Night) then you shouldn't need quotation marks, but as you said it's all down to house style!

Let's be honest, Stevie was so out of her head during the RAL tour, she probably doesn't remember what sang!

I asked this simply because I've seen so-called fans react badly to new Stevie and Lindsey songs, so I can't imagine how they would react to old blues numbers if they can't handle that!
I think in general the crowds did just fine with "I Loved Another Woman," "Stop Messin' Round," etc. Sure, there's the usual constant dribbling of people in & out going on throughout the show, but that happens even during "The Chain." I saw many "Tango" & "Mask" shows & didn't notice any problem with any song in the set. Aside from the major fans, Fleetwood Mac audiences don't get so passionately worked up over the set list anyway. People come to hang out at an FM concert & just enjoy themselves; I don't think the mob cares all that much whether Mac plays "Gold Dust Woman" instead of "Rhiannon," or substitutes "I Loved Another Woman" for "Gypsy."

Fleetwood Mac worries overmuch about squeezing in all these hits every year, believing that otherwise hordes of people will ... what? riot? Ain't gonna happen, folks. All Mac has to do is just play a bunch of songs, & most of the crowd will go home content & smelling of beer.

Here's an unusual perspective: I actually believe that Stevie was a lot more "out of her head" during her 1983 tour than she was in 1986 on tour. My overall impression of her from 1986 (& I saw her a bunch of times) is that she had more alcohol in her system than cocaine. She was bloated & frowzy & quite striking in a cryptlike way, & couldn't summon the chops to soar vocally but nevertheless pushed her vocals to an amazing raggedness & yet generally seemed "all there" mentally.

But three years before that, she was as high as a kite from start to finish (I saw the California shows), giddily chatting like a bipolar patient (she literally could not shut up--the motor nerve to her mouth had been hot-wired) & she was able to summon up the most unusual & amazing vocal pyrotechnics without the least bit of effort. THAT'S cocaine.

My friends Susan & Patrick went to the Iron Maiden show at Universal Amphitheatre two weeks ago, & they said some drunken asshole in the row behind them actually pee'd right where he was standing! They had put their drinks on the floor by their seats (as we all do) & of course so much for that.

In their case, they went home with their pants legs smelling of urine. Mad as hell, too.

Keep in mind that newspapers have style rules that don't apply to any other form of writing. Most of these rules result from space constraints. Some of the more esoteric ones result from the old style of printing with letters made out of lead. This is where the newspaper-only term "lede" (the first paragraph of a story) comes from. It is spelled that way to distinquish from lead, as in metal. Another rule is reporting that someone pleaded "innocent" when the person actually pleaded "not guilty" in court. The reason for that is just in case the "not" fell out, the paper could find itself in a libel situation.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Fleetwood Mac discussion...

I can't remember the exact quote (believe it or not!), but I believe Stevie was referring to the fact that she only sang "I Can't Wait" that one time in the studio and "never again," because that first vocal take was the one they used.

She was referring to recording the song, so I never read it as if she meant she never sang it again anywhere... just not in the studio.

As for "I Still Miss Someone (Blue Eyes)"... I think that song has one of Stevie's absolute best vocals on the entire 'Mirror' album. So emotive and affecting.
The way she sings, "well, there's someone... someone for me somewhere... but I still miss that one," is heartbreaking.

But the production definitely did the song a disservice, and is a glaring example of how cold and stilted Rupert Hine's preoccupation with synths and drum machines, could sound.

On 'Rock A Little' and 'The Wild Heart,' the synths (which is a sound I actually like) are balanced with acoustic instruments, and it works to great effect, IMO.

Here is what she said:

Inspired by Rick Nowels

I think this was about the most exciting song that I had ever heard. My friend, Rick, whom I had known since I was eighteen and he was thirteen, brought over this track with this incredible percussion thing, and gave it to me asking me if I would listen to it and consider writing a song for it...I listened to the song once, and pretended not to be that knocked out, but the second Rick left, I ran to my little recording studio and wrote "I Can't Wait." It took all night, and I think it is all about how electric I felt about this music...And that night, that SATURDAY night, Rick and I went into a BIG studio and recorded it. I sang it only once, and have never sung it since in the studio. Some vocals are magic and simply not able to beat. So I let go of it, as new to me as it was; but you know, now when I hear it on the radio, this incredible feeling comes over me, like something really incredible is about to happen...

To understand this song, you sort of have to let yourself go a little crazy...love is blind, it never works out...but you just have to have it...

I can't wait...

Hooray for Johnny Stew!!!!!

Also, Johnny - I agree La Nicks' vocals on "I Still Miss Someone" are heartbreaking and a testament of what she could still do even then

Sort of an off-topic remark, I think I might have to agree with ChiliD here... The Other Side Of The Mirror, to me, is Stevie's weakest offering. Except for a couple of songs ("Rooms On Fire", "Juliet" and "Alice"), the problem of the production is never solved. It's an album that makes me feel tired.

I am listening to it right now, hence my 'song of the moment'.

The thing that's always puzzled me about "Rooms on Fire" is, why doesn't she just get the hell out of that room?

There was no fire burning - it was just a soul crying
